Right then you bunch of tossers. All the banks locked them selves down in folkestone breifly and we have been expirenceing massive power surges this morning apprently. Just been "out and about" and half the traffic lights in folkestone are down, sainsburys is trying to restart its generators due to a power cut followed by power a surge earlier which knocked them out.
I popped into Halfrauds for some oil and there where two customers suffering seemingly complete electrical failour in there cars. Its buggered there instrument displays up for no known reason. happened at the same time...ish
So we HAVE had some strong electrical interferance here and it knocked my mobile phone out, which is very weird imho.
So we had a power cut/surge/cut/surge, but i have never expirenced one that affects a mobile.
I'll go and get in my lead lined bunker now just to please you all.

The only thing about a power surge on the news appears to relate to trains in South Wales:

There's nothing on Google news and most importantly zilch on Twitter about power cuts, EMP pulses, or bad aids so that means the OP is right as no-one can get on their phones or PC (unless it was only "on" to do updates). ![eek](/inc/images/eek.gif)
Run for the hillscliffs! (not Dover, it's s

No problem. Just showed my boss this thread and he thinks it sounds like an EMC related issue too. Reckons that some sort of large transient could have been sent up the mains (possibly on a single phase...) and essentially everything has acted as a large antenna and broadcast some EMI which have in turn fooked things like cars and mobiles...I popped into Halfrauds for some oil and there where two customers suffering seemingly complete electrical failour in there cars. Weirder things happen fairly often in the lab. For example the other week when performing BCI testing all of the USB inputs on my computer in a completely seperate room failed, damaging a keyboard and mouse irreparably. And one of the engineers iPhones does not like being in the same room as Audio Frequency testing one bit... Phone just locks up and needs the battery taken out and in...
EMC is weird. Some more unusual incidents of electronic interferance

solar flare, electro magnetic wave, this has happened before and sounds similar esp electrical overloads..
Solar flare is what I was thinking of - strange it would be quite so localised I'd have thought mind but still. I bet it was rather Hollywood if two cars just conked out in the road.
