Not my door handle. A door handle belonging to a hotel in Mayfair.
Post it in that thread and see how long it takes to be spotted. I won't spoil the fun

I'm sure it won't be to everyone's taste, but it makes a change from my usual flat brown/black.
I think they look great. Was it easy to do? Do you have to add an additional protection layer on top to prevent the dye from running in case you get caught in the rain?

Can anyone tell me what has happened to my Barker Oxfords? If you look closely at the leather it is now rough and pockmarked where it used to be shiny and smooth.

Had them a year and they are worn about 6-7 times a month; never on consecutive days. They are always rubbed down after use and have shoe cream applied before they get put in their shoe trees for next time. I try not to wear them in the wet but have been caught out a couple of times with the english weather. The shoes are about due for their first re-soling but looking at the state of them I might not bother.

Very disappointed with the quality of the leather; my old Army boots would still polish up well after 8 years of use and abuse.
Don't know, but looks like it may be a build up of wax/polish - is that feasible?
For reference, I only polish my work shoes every couple of months. Just a light buff as and when required between times.
My 'better' shoes which may get worn once a month have not seen any cream or polish since initial treatment - they mostly live in their bags. hehe

When I was in the RAF our toe caps used end up the same after lots of polish was applied after a few months. The remedy was to heat up and spoon using a candle ( not red hot but hotter than you could touch) and then using the back of spoon smooth the surface, effectivly melting the polish and flatening it.

There may well be a better way of removing the polish, but I think removing the excess polish will sort your problem.

Yes it was very easy - I was surprised!

Essentially;
1)Remove old wax/finish with pure acetone on cotton wool
2)Pour about 4 teaspoons of Lexol conditioner into an old pot and add a few drops of leather dye*
3)Paint the whole shoe with solution using a paint brush
4)Add a little more dye to solution and paint your toe caps/heels/whatever you want darker
5)Add more dye and paint the very dark areas
6)Brush when dry and add layer of shoe wax

I'm told that the conditioner helps draw the dye deep into the leather so you dont need a sealer other than normal wax. Time will tell I guess!

  • I used Fiebings Professional Oil Dye in "Dark chocolate brown".

yes Though it’s starting to become difficult to find different colours of men’s skate trainers now (particularly DC’s) that I like now. Most are blues and blacks I'm probably going to have to switch styles soon. I do envy the range of colours that women get in similar trainers; most of which would be 100% acceptable on a men’s size.

In the '90s, running shoes were reborn with fit systems. The PUMA Disc, part of the Trinomic family, was sought after for its comfort-boosting clicks. (Twist it and internal wires tighten the upper for a fit that's just right. Pull the tab to loosen and remove.) This version is extra lightweight and mixes serious, iconic hardware with fresh style in a sunny lime colourway.

They look like they should have a pair of prosthetic limbs sticking out the top,

No idea what will be available, but Cheaney shoes have a temporary shop from Wednesday 4/11 to Sunday 8/11 at The Old Truman Brewery (close to Brick Lane, London).

Might be worth a look and perhaps it will something like the Northampton makers' factory outlets.

Some info' here... http://www.trumanbrewery.com/cgi-bin/shop.pl?f=tw

Just been for a look. Quite a jumble sale. Shoes £75 (in theory) to £200. Most I saw were £120 or £175. Lots of decent-looking shoes mixed with the expected oddballs - chunky white derbys, anyone?

Also 'Pantarella' socks for sale. Meh.

Hi, I have this set also just wondering were you get your trainer inserts from to keep them in shape. Some of mine are looking worse for wear. Thanks.

Missus picked them for me, a website she was ordering from were doing a 3 for 2, she's got 4 pairs, I've got 2 hehe It's my own fault for mentioning I liked the look of the Nike when we were out shopping recently biggrin

The missus ordered a pair of high top Air Force One's, I've already told her I won't be seen in public with her wearing them! I used to wear them when I was 16 FFS!
