poor choice of wording in the article -

it was taking steps to make "the area safe for car park users"

Could this be down to a lack of literacy when completion the register of birth. A unit friend of mine was Corale - the added “e” was due to a rush to fill in paperwork as things were a little touch and go when she was born.

Somethimes I think all baby's names should be vetted by someone before birth. That name has just put a gigantic wall in front of that poor girl's life chances.

Not to mention a lifetime of having to spell it out every single time she needs to give her name.

That is the case in Germany. An ex-American serviceman we know who had a daughter with his German wife, wanted to call the child Robyn (or Robin, I forget which spelling they wanted), as is common in the US. The German authorities said that Robyn/Robin is a boy's name, and they weren't having it, so sent them away to come up with an acceptable alternative.

I'm not sure if it was on here or another forum, but a few years ago a poster's wife, who was a reception class teacher reported on a new pupil:-

T: And what is your little angel's name?
Mother: Whyvonnee
T: Pardon?
M: Whyvonnee
T: Sorry, how do you spell that?
M: Y.V.O.N.N.E of course!
T: Oh, you mean Yvonne.
M. Nah, you spell it Y.V.O.N.N.E so you say it Whyvonnee!!!

Did they have to round her up?

sn't she one of the ones who go through a ~6 month cycle of crash diet/boot camp to normal-ish size which is recorded for posterity and flogged on DVD/go on holiday to 'Marbs' and eat pies washed down with gallons of piña colada mix until Japanese and Norwegian whalers start following her about?
Where does the money to support that amazingly glamorous lifestyle come from? Cant be that much in flaunting blubber, it is too competetive.
You'd be amazed at how club and bar owners will pay for them to "do an appearance" at their bar - as the rest of the clientele see it as an attraction! Rinse and repeat - and it's a decent ish income.

Add in insta sponsorship, etc.
There's a bar in Wilmslow that we used to visit quite frequently when we were allowed to visit such establishments. The owner was asked if they could bring a small film crew in one day, which he agreed to. The filming involved a bunch of vacuous women sat around a table, talking b*ll*cks and drinking prosecco.

When it was time to leave, the waitress told the owner they did not want to pay the bill. When he went over to discuss it with them, one of the crew said they were not expecting to have to pay, as they were providing publicity fo the venue. He told them to cough up or he'd call the police.

It's quite a problem where there are places with a lot of old stone flags etc. Our local pub had the coping stones from the top of the wall taken - white Transit on CCTV just rolled up and stole the top of the wall.

Old house a few doors down had the ENORMOUS stone balls at the sides of the gateposts stolen recently.

Before...

After...

We've had flags taken from the church path. My house has around 100 square metres of York stone flagging around it, some of them are several inches thick - this stuff costs thousands, just for the stone. Mine are laid on concrete and pointed in etc - but the biggest defence is that they're a good way from the drive and up a hill - you need trolleys etc. If my house was at ground level, so to speak, I'd be worried.

With these flags they double their money by splitting them. You'd think with the effort involved they could probably make as much money getting a legitimate job. It also strikes me that there should be checkpoints and people in Transits should be subject to searches before going anywhere nice - make sure that they aren't full of stolen stone, motorbikes, griffins etc.

Someone stole the gate at the end of our drive... Approx 3m long, big metal and heavy. Must have take a full lorry or tractor but all the local tractor guys work for the people who own the land and the filed the drive runs through....

I did laugh at that. If The News Quiz was on this week I would have submitted it to them.
