On another note, in the late seventies, I drove my American girlfriend, and her friend, both twenty, back to college in Binghamton NY from NYC.
I pulled into a diner, near Hancock NY for a sandwich, and asked for 3 beers, the waiter asked for the girls ID, I said, “It’s okay pal, I’ll vouch for them”, he came back with, “they may be your daughters sir, but I have to see some ID.”
Screams of laughter, and a faceful of egg.
