Talking of which, I grew up thinking that calling someone a "berk" was a very tame thing, akin to "chump". A slightly silly person who had done something silly or foolish.

It was only years later that I learned the etymology of the word and why it wasn't quite as tame as I had been lead to believe. Turned it out was very much of the same ilk as "twunt".
