What do you do if you had a crap tattoo done at 18 (because thats what you do at 18), and you've been waiting to get it covered up for years. At the ripe old age of 31 its about time I had it done, but I'm worried I'm going to end up with something else even larger that I'll regret in a few years time. I want the crap one covered, but feel I'm forcing myself to find something, because I want this one covered up, not because I actually want the new piece doing.

What to do?
Where is it?

I have a "techincally" st tattoo that I got at 14 but I still like it because it is a memory. I forget mine is there.

It will have to be bigger. It will probably have to have lots of heavy colour too.

If you really don't want something else have u thought about having it passers off?

Also, had another 3 hours done on my leg this morning- the Ferris wheel from Pripyat is now skirting round the edge of my knee.

I had a Tattoo when I was 15 and love it for about 2 years. For the next 25+ years I hated my tattoo, nothing wrong just disliked it.

But after finding about cover up's took the plunge and had a cover up. 9 1/2 hours later in 3 sessions and ma very happy whit my coverup.
I took months looking into what I wanted. Rip skin, biomechanical. A few other things and very very please with the result.
I did some home made Indian ink stuff when I was 15 too, and I loved it.....for about 14 seconds. Since then I have been meaning to get it removed or covered, but never got around to it. I've tried several daft ideas to make it fade away, rubbed it with various chemicals, scratched it out with needle, matches etc, even had part of it tattooed over with white, just to see what happened.

Now I'm 56 and realise all the bull about tattoos fading away are obviously rubbish. laughlaughlaugh

I have two full sleeves as well, so my doodling doesn't stand out so much, and I'm thinking of getting a piece done to cover the back of my hand, maybe some sort of faded skull face to blend with the dark mass/mess of my 20 year old sleeves ?

How visible is it?

I have a fairly crap tattoo I had done at 18, but because it's on my thigh where nobody sees it, I've kept it. It reminds me of being 18 and being ricidulously excited to get my first tattoo.

If it's really visible then I'd say definitely get it covered up, but find something awesome. Instagram is your friend.

Mine is on my upper right arm, so I have the embarrassment of it on show for most of the summer, and when swimming and the like.

I should probably get a photo up of it, that way we can all have a good laugh:

Could you get it redone so that it retains the spirit of the original but looks good? There are some amazing Japanese-style tattooists out there.

Unless you really want a tattoo, you could get it removed. I hear there are some really good laser systems around that leave no scars.

Skinnyman, see my pics of my wife's sleeve above, they are doing something similar.

She has a dragon, upper right arm, that was her first tattoo. She's doesn't want it covered so is incorporating it into the sleeve. It will form the emblem on the Samurai helmet at the top of the sleeve. It will be reworked with gold to freshen it up and will look awesome when done.

So I filled in an online enquiry form for an artist and got this email. Might just be me but I find the reply insulting, condescending and arrogant. I'm going to pass giving my skin over to someone to have free reign over.
