Were milk chocolate 'Margins' a real thing in about 1984-5? Could be chocolates or biscuits. Seen on a single sleeve. Seem familiar but maybe made up.

No I won't hear of it.

I thank them for my appreciation of the causes and effects
of metal fatigue in chainlink eyebars under tension and
the subsequent catastrophic failure of the structure.

Do people even read newspapers anymore let alone get them delivered?

Note the lights on the bike (already mentioned before) but I think they are the early metal ones, probably a Raleigh Arena racer. Bad clothing, bad haircut. Duffle coat. Doc Martens. Got to be late 70s early 80s!

Golden Nuggets cereal. They probably should have called future type 2 diabetes nuggets!

Although apparently after disappearing in the 1970s, according to wiki they were brought back in 1999 but I don’t remember seeing a packet in recent years (although perhaps because I don’t shop for cereals except muesli and porridge).

Also unsurprisingly, they were a US invention.

What about vacuums that "beat as they sweep as they clean"?

Abd being able to "clean a big big carpet for less than half a crown"
"1001 cleans a big, big, carpet for less than half a crown", presumably it was 2/5 1/2.

No sure what you're saying, but half a crown was 2 shillings and six pence, or in 1970's decimal currency, twelve and a half pence.
2/5 1/2 is less than half a crown.

Sticks.

Watching an old film, I wondered when ladies' waiting rooms disappeared from stations.

Also letter boxes at stations.

Culham and Kemble stations still have their letterboxes, whether they’re still in use or not is anyone’s guess smile

Ah yes, but you didn't need to use all of it , so, less than half a crown.

for some reason as a kid I always associated Donkey jackets with bin men especially Eddie Yates

growing up in the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset , overlooking the sea with a Mancunian Gran who lived with us , and always watched " Coronation st " in the 70s

I hated this programme with a passion , the grimy back to back houses , the accents ................. char lady Hilda Ogden and bloody Mavis ... Christ it looked Grim to a 10 year old

Edit : Ironically" Mavis" played by Thelma Barlow who is 94 , now lives in the Isle Of Purbeck !!!

wink

I think that's what caziques meant, as johnnyspex quote actually said ' less than half a crown' so caziques quoted a price that was ½d less.
