I should be allowed to have a rocket launcher and be able to use it irresponsibly.

Alcohol, and related illnesses, should be taken a LOT more seriously in this country and I do wonder if a Scandinavian model of control should be implemented - I may not be totally impartial frown
I'll assume you've never been on holiday with Scandinavians where alcohol isn't hugely expensive and controlled then?

They're worse than the Brits tbh.

I've spent a bit of time in Norway and Iceland. If drinking cans of beer on the street like in Oslo, and the home brewing in both countries is the future then it is no better.

They also drink reindeer piss to trip out - quite an experience, although I'd have preferred it if they'd told me it was piss before I'd drunk it!

Origination of the phrase 'getting pissed'.

Vast quantities of vodka were also consumed on that trip. Let's just say it was an incredibly memorable 'cultural exchange' to Northern Finland back when I was a teen.

My brother in law is Norwegian and I've been to Gran Canaria a couple of times with him and his extended family. All I can say is wow - they're all st faced by 3 in the afternoon everyday, and unable to speak by the time we've finished the main course at dinner.

My memory of Finland is nearly 30 years out of date, but they were also a bunch of binge drinking pissheads. I think the Scandis only have such rules because otherwise they’d all be as drunk as Russians.

Similarly, when I was a student in Newcastle a million years ago, it was well known the Stavanger ferry was used as a weekend piss up round trip by the Norwegians getting round domestic booze prices.

Another possibly unpopular opinion...
Loyalty is not a good thing
If the person or organisation is right, there's no need for loyalty.
If the person or organisation is wrong, why should you be loyal to them?

Working for a company that used to be brilliant but since a PE buyout is becoming less so, I'm struggling to disagree with this....

Fair enough, several times when I’ve felt settled and secure that illusion has been taken away when times got tougher.

I know I’m nothing more than a number for any company I’ve worked for, and I treat them in much the same way.

Good companies still exist, i'm fortunate enough to work for one such.

The problem with many people these days at work is they forget that there is one person in the company who is really important, its not them or the boss its the customer, without whom there is no company and no job.
Amazing how many people at alll levels can't grasp that simple fact.

Yep totally agree, even the man sat atop the pyramid in Tokyo would be unseated if our customers went elsewhere, so they come above all else. It's amazing how many people at work think our customers are a pain the arris and we could do without them.

Uh-huh

And then how would you get paid?

Unreal

Alcohol should be banned, but it never will, because people won't admit/accept that they're addicted to it. They'll argue that they only drink in moderation - if they weren't addicted it would be irrelevant how much they drank.
