It's that particular artist's style.
If you look at the style of some other artists, eg Tiggy who did mine a few pages above, there are almost no black lines at all.
It depends on your own definition of "better" I suppose. You can find an artist who works in almost every style nowadays, from things which look basically like watercolour, to bold graffiti styles with lots of thick lines.
Similarly, it's untrue to say that wall-art doesn't use thick black lines. Look at LS Lowry for example.

Well, at risk of finding myself in the bad tats thread, I’m about 2 weeks from getting my first tattoo and I blame this thread
Haven’t seen a final-ish design yet (as expected, won’t get anything till the day before) but I’ve offered a few ideas, some key bits of inspiration, will be a full lower leg sleeve and the main driver is ‘in this style of yours’. To be honest, I like a lot of stuff he does (Mike Boyd at the circle in soho) so I reckon I’ll be hard-pressed to decline outright whatever he comes up with, but I’m not brave enough to just say ‘whatever you like, crack on’.
Kind of like this but 4 different beasties ...

He's very good. I don't have anything by him but I've had a few from Kat and Kola who are based at the circle, it's a top shop. It's a really small and busy basement. You'll be fine Got another piece by Dan at Tooth and Talon a few weeks back.
Well, it’s a good start, I think. I’m bloody knackered
Not the greatest photo but you get the gist... (looks a bit like a seal here, it’s actually a polar bear; the head carries on round for another couple of inches).
Wasn’t half as painful as I was anticipating, but it’s a bit tender round the back of the knee. 5 hours all told I reckon, 7 hours in the shop. Shin and background colouring in to be done in June.

Not a style that personally appeals to me, but from a technical perspective that is very very good, and should stand the test of time for colour retention. That's one to be proud of.
I was also surprised at how painless it was, relatively anyway, but after 7 hours on the second day I started to struggle with mine.

Polar bear's a bit too grey, seal-like as you said. Not the greatest photo but you get the gist... (looks a bit like a seal here, it’s actually a polar bear; the head carries on round for another couple of inches).

I like the style and work overall, where the 2 animals are only likely to be near each other if they're in a zoo.
You know, "polar opposites" you might say.

Finally getting around to getting my first one sorted!
Gone for (one) of my favourite album covers. Hopefully attached.
Waiting to hear back from one place if the artist they think is best suited is happy to do it. Another has said it will take around two hours and be £200.
Had a look at both artists work and like them both...how on earth do I decide who to pick?
Looking at the start of April.

I had a consultation with Clara Sinclair (who did my back, arm, chest) about extending my arm down to my wrist by adding a Medusa face with snakes (obviously), some swirling filligree and a blue gemstone. And also maybe adding another blue gemstone to my existing chestpiece.
I'm still undecided (a full sleeve is a lot harder to conceal, where necessary, than my current coverage) but I think I'm 90% going to go for it - if it works out the way I have in my head, it'll look superb.
It'll take my total work from Clara close to 50 hours. Someone has to pay her bills I suppose
