"Schematic" is a word I've never come across in my background of electronics, engineering, telecoms and broadband.

Don't watch the new Wheeler Dealers for gods sake.
Yes, they really are aiming at an American audience. Fair enough I suppose, as they have a huge car culture. Some of the builds on the programmes I watch are fantastic. Some of the costs must easily be enough to buy a new Porche, Ferrari etc.

Schematic is a word I’ve come across when dealing with German and Swiss manufactured products. Each page of the electrical schematic had a component in the centre (eg a drive controller) and all the wires coming off it.
Italian manufacturers used wiring diagrams - literally a diagram of the wires stating length, configuration and what they plugged in to each end.
Now I’m with an American company we get bugger all and have to work it out for ourselves.

We seem to have two different things here - the noun ("a schematic") and the adjective (eg "a schematic diagram" or "a schematic map").

So it could be that we're talking at cross purposes here.

Going by the dictionary definition of the adjective, Cotty used it correctly when referring to the tube map.

I was using schematic as an abbreviation of schematic diagram now you highlight this.
Probably incorrectly. smile

Actually, maybe that's all it is - an abbreviation. Although it has rather come to mean a certain type of schematic diagram and perhaps that's what SlimJim is objecting to. Who knows.

I certainly don't associate it as an Americanism though, and Cotty was correct in its usage as an adjective, which is what started the whole debate off.

Talking of the lines on the Tube map - I find them very difficult to follow and to correspond the lines with the key on the side that shows which line belongs to which, er, line.

Colourblind, you see. This makes the map almost impossible to use at times.

Same here. I'm fine with the high contrast colours like the yellow of the Circle line, or red of the Central line, but I struggle with the greens & browns, and the purples & blues.

Square toilets / toilet seats.

I get that they look more modern but until we evolve square bum cheeks they just aren't as supportive as a more traditional design.

Have you ever tried the diagonal approach - you know, like a Marks & Spencer sandwich?

Someone said they were going to send me a report last week, still not received this morning. I sent a chaser and received a reply saying the report was sent the same day I asked for it as per the attached email. I open the email and it does not include my email address. I wonder sometimes if people have post-it notes on their desk reminding them to breath in and out.

My bank unilaterally deciding to stop a transfer I initiated on Friday (house deposit, so absolutely needed to be done asap) but not fking telling me.

If I hadn't checked this morning I might not have been able to complete today and it would have cost me five figures in fees and interest furious

Radio DJs referring to tunes as "bangers".

I have no particular reason or justification for this annoying me beyond reason, but it does.
That, and 'legendary'. A few weeks ago we had put the radio on for the builder, and following some forgettable Craig David track the DJ declared him such. Not even close!

My own foolishness and/or lack of awareness during times of being a bit worse for wear.

Had to go to Halfords on Saturday morning to get some oil to top up, didn't have any 0-30 in my collection and that's what the Volvo needs. Picked up another couple of useful items I needed, took it all to the till with my trade card to be told it was £15.something all in.

This sounded like the oil was on a particularly tasty offer on trade, so asked how much the 4 litres was on trade card price given how keen it was. Cue a bit of rigamarole as the cashier goes through how to work out the price of an item on trade etc etc. Turns out it isn't as significantly cheap as the 1 litre I had so saId thanks anyway and went to pay.

What I hadn't noticed the first time round was that actually, she hadn't scanned the oil at all and the £15 was only the price for the other bits I'd picked up. Should have just paid and not questioned it and been blissfully unaware of their error

Was it a CHAPS transfer or a BACS transfer? With the advent of FPS, BACS transfers now go through the same day, usually within a couple of hours (they used to take 2-3 days), which means CHAPS has fallen out of favour due to its high fees. But the one thing CHAPS has going for it is it is absolutely guaranteed to go through the same day, which is why it is still usually insisted upon for critical transfers like house purchases.

Although on the up side, you're not guilty of inadvertently shoplifting. smile

It's non-UK, so SWIFT.

Today's annoyance is motorists who don't indicate when exiting a roundabout.

I was sat at a roundabout waiting to join, and a there was a stream of cars approaching to my right. There was a nice gap save for the fact that there was a car right in the middle of it, so I had to wait, and then the inconsiderate twunt exited the roundabout to go up the road I was coming down from, without indicating.

If he'd had indicated then I could have gone. By the time I saw him start his exit it was too late to join as the car behind him had caught him up by then, and I had to wait for another gap.

A minor annoyance, I know, but it annoyed me enough to post about it here.
