I love it!
Didn’t hurt half as much as a gun.
Most of it I didn’t even feel!

Looking for a wee bit of friendly advice on whether I’m being unreasonable or expecting too much. So I took some references to a consultation for a sleeve I want, one of those ideas I specifically wanted (half geometric skull with a design in the eye) as well as where I wanted said item on my forearm. The artist sent me artwork that didn’t include the one thing I specifically asked for (the design in the eye) and the placement wasn’t where I’d asked for either. When I queried this he immediately asked if I wanted to cancel, I thought this was odd instead of asking how he could rectify it. He then sent me another design which was literally a line for line copy of the reference I gave him, so no originality basically a copy of someone else’s tattoo. The appointment was booked 2 months ago for this afternoon and despite me asking to see artwork last week I was told it hadn’t been done yet, again I felt this was a bit odd. The artwork was sent to my yesterday morning and the amended sent this morning. I obviously cancelled as I wasn’t happy so what I’d like to know is it usual not to see a rendering soo close to the appointment? The drawings were very poor quality, I would have expected to see finished artwork so I can actually see what I’m getting, again is this normal? Overall I’m very disappointed in the whole process...

I would find an artist who actually wants to do the work how you want. There is nothing wrong with changing a design if what you are asking isn’t doable or practical, which doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Sounds like you had a lucky escape, as Ruskie says above, find someone that wants to do it and someone you feel comfortable with.

Led Coult is currently in residence at Kamil Tattoo in London - been following his work for a while, incredibly talented artist. I’ve only got my arms left free - I’m very tempted!

When I went to get my first tattoo, I'd had a consultation but didn't see any artwork until about 20 mins before he started...

I'd seen loads of his work and was happy with that. He did have to do a redraw before he started.

In your instance, I would have also cancelled. It just sounds like be didn't really want to do it in the first place. Most tattooists are either upfront in saying they don't or sometimes make plausible excuses why they can't.

Newbie question, is it particularly difficult to accurately tattoo the side profile of a face from a photo?

I have a favourite photo that was taken of my son and I from the side about 12 months ago, and I'd like to incorporate the profile outline of his face into my 1st tattoo. But clearly it's only going to work for me if it's pretty much identical and therefore recognisable.

Entirely possible if you get the right tattioist. Do some research on artists that specialise in portraits. Expect to pay a premium but that's a given. Anything less will lead to regret

Thank you, I expect the challenge will be that the rest of the tattoo won't necessarily be a portrait artists type of work.

If it’s completely side on then it might be difficult to get some depth into it to avoid it looking flat. Choose a specialist portrait artist and fire an email off wit’s the picture attached and they will give you an accurate answer.

Yeah, if he didn't think it was possible then a good artist would have explained that to you very clearly and suggested what he would like to do instead. It may very well be that what you wanted wasn't possible, but it's up to him to tell you that, not just throw designs at you!

Fire up Instagram and find another artist - and be patient!

Yeah it’s back to the drawing board so to speak with finding a new artist.
