I now have an 11-16mm (16.5-24mm) wide zoom, the 18-200mm (27-300mm) "standard" zoom and the bonkers 50-500mm (75-750mm) super-zoom.

All bases covered.

A standard, prime, fast type lens?

Would that be an actual 50mm (giving 75mm) or something shorter giving 50mm?

I feel useless with just a 18-55 most of the time. Everything seems just out of reach.

~£70 will get you the IS new. Tis a good improvement for the budget.

Some of the RS 4 stuff was done with the 18-55, but some were with a borrowed Macro lens, but I've no idea what it was.

At 6th Form, doing my A-Level, if I wasn't using my Cybershot Point & Shoot I always ended up with a 600mm thing, made life a bit difficult sometimes...

Static car stuff is easy with 18-55mm but anything a decent distance away needs longer.

That's the one!

It's brand new, boxed etc so was hoping to sell it for £50 less than I paid at £650

I use the standard Canon 50mm f1.8 on my 40D (= 80mm) and it's a truly lovely lens. £80 or so too, astonishing value.

You can get a 35mm prime, but that's into ~£300 territory.

File under "bargain". That lens can do some astonishing things in the right hands... e.g.
