Myself and the wife are out walking the dogs yesterday, we are approaching a woman who recognises us:
Woman: "Hi Alex and Tina, how are you, it's Di?"
Me: "Hi Di, how are things, Rolf good?"
Wife: "Oh hello how are things? This is my husband Alex"
FFS she'd only just asked how we both were by name and I also asked after her husband!!

My OH was watching Eurovision on Sat night, and excitedly announced that the song by the Netherlands was coming on, and that it was the favourite to win. Can't remember exactly what I said, but I said something about Holland which seemed to confuse the poor soul.
Turns out there was all sorts of confusion in her mind - she didn't know Holland/Netherlands were one and the same; thought Holland was the capital of the Netherlands; and then said she thought the Netherlands was the countries above Denmark (i.e. Scandinavia).

Holland and the Netherlands aren't the same thing. North Holland and South Holland are 2 of the 12 provinces that make up the Netherlands.

Just showed my Dutch OH this. You don’t want to know her reaction...
