Mixed bag...

The models are still really struggling. Long term forecasts keep pitching the idea of blocking somewhere north of the UK, but the reality is the only high pressure so far has sat over Europe, feeding us miserable cloud and warmth.

The Atlantic looks to wake up a little in the run up to Xmas, and there is evidence of a strong storm due around the 23rd/24th. This could bring a temporary snowy outlook for much of the UK, washed away with plenty of wind and rain.

5 years ago I was complaining about this much snow:

We haven't had this much snow for 3 or 4 years!

A storm.

Bah!

I did wonder the other day if it would be stormy at Christmas. Been very quiet so far.

The storm, as it's currently modeled, would drag cooler air in from the NW. It brings the chance of a white Christmas (by the betting definition) in to play.

Xmas Day is unlikely to be warm, but not frozen either.

I was mildly tempted to set up a webcam pointed out the window, but couldn't find a free streaming service that wouldn't kill my bandwidth.
Has to be something out there that only has the one connection to a server, which everyone one else then connects to.

I've just realised I killed the cold snap - I've got a new car and just discovered the button that warms the screen under the wipers and d efrosts the washer jets.

I only got to use it once. redface

Not much scope going forward either. North American east coast going in the freezer means the jet stream is cranking up. Atlantic weather for us for the foreseeable future.

frown Does it look like the storm conveyor belt, or just a bit warmer and damp?

More of a mixed bag. But there are storms modelled. One particularly just before Xmas. More aligned to the NW than us down in the South.

I think I killed winter a few years ago; after a particularly bad spell of snow and having to clear a drive way of about 600 metres long I went out and bought a fancy snow blower. Barely a frost seen since 🤔

Better than 2 years ago when our solid stone/rubble walls were so wet water was coming out of the window lintels.
