Self importance really get's my goat. Wife came home the other day and relayed a story from her last day at work.

She was stood at one of the coffee vendors outside St Pancras station in London. There was a small queue and behind my wife was a woman and child who were having a conversation that went something like this:

Child - "Mummy - why do we have to queue".

Mummy - "Because we are acting like ordinary people today".

mad

F*ck me. That's a long item. It goes to show how involved true pedantry can be. I could of (biggrin) spent all day reading that.

I received a letter from my insurance company today ref' a claim from November where a Mondeo hit my parked Fiesta.

Blah blah...."The other driver's insurers have not responded to our communications"

WTF is wrong with the other company, their customer hit my car whilst parked ,just sort yourselves out and pay up !

Danny Bakers show on 5 live. And my complaint isn't as you would expect about him, although his prattling can get annoying at times. The whole time he is speaking why does he feel the need to play stupid music in the background? It makes it sound like the radio is tuned into two stations at once. All he would have to do is throw in the odd crackle and whistle and it would be like listening to Radio Luxembourg.

He plays the overure from Ben-Hur, my bestest film ever, so I definately approve.

It's shorthand for 'We care. A lot. So much it's actually painful. Not like those other guys, they eat babies and drink the blood of poor people. Vote for us because we're nice.'

My condolences too morning side.

Actually if you go to cadburys world it's all explained. Well worth a visit.

But yes. Pint and a half of milk into each little bar. Like the bars we got from vending machines as kids.

That music from the film Dirty Dancing.

All the way through the film the script stays faithful to the period - music from (I think) 1963. The props are correct, the clothing, the cars. The soundtrack is hits from that year.

Then the finale, with that ridiculous "Time of my life" song, which is completely 1980s in style and content. It couldn't possibly, in any way, be a hit from 1963. And all the families, kids et al, get up and dance as if everything is completely normal, to music which must have been very weird at that time.

Why does Hollywood do this sort of thing to we pedants? Just because American audiences are mentally subnormal, do they think the rest of the world is?

People who say "to be honest " about things which honesty really has no relevance to.

Well, to be honest with you, people, um, often use a lot of, you know, "filler words" to slow down what they're saying, if you know what I mean, because it gives them time to, like, try to think about what they want to say. Innit.

Personally I just blurt out whatever is in my head, with pretty much no filter, and the first point at which I know what I have said is the same time you do. Which makes for an interesting life, especially when drunk. biggrin
