Nice find! I got the pig DS&P had in the shop (which had actually been sponsored by the Framing Workshop)...bought it in the closing down auction in which they flogged off all the stock. It’s a shame the shop is gone frown

Even more frivolous than my purchase - excellent work!

Talking of frivolous, and music..

I hired Angel recording studio 1, a bunch of musicians and a conductor to record music that I knew would never earn me any money or be published. Just music I wanted to hear.

Frivolous money well spent!

So what was the music? and where can we hear it? (utter kudos sir!)

Well Warner Bros bought a few (to my surprise) for their catalogue, the rest are unpublished.

Much of it was Baroque in style (which I like listening too, but won't earn me money) If you don't like 300 year old music, you'll hate this! A clip: http://stevecarter.com/random/baroquesampler.mp3

If you are interested in the sorta' stuff I write that pays the bills...

Enjoyed that....

Could you get close to that electronically - with multi layered (obviously) samples? I have been impressed with string samples, and just wondered.

Ta.

IMHO About 80% the way there (with a lot of work), but always lacking the dynamics and feel that musos bring to it. I can always tell if it's sample or real (mainly as I have the same samples!)

I'm intrigued, are you personally a good musician or just a composer?
I cannot begin to understand how you go from a blank sheet of paper, to creating something as amazing as that.

Ha... well using paper takes fking ages, but computers help A LOT!

I failed music O level, but spent years playing in (and then writing for) jazz bands, and eventually became a session musician. Gave that up as I wanted to live in the country so started to write, and that's all I've done since. I'm now pretty rubbish at playing as it's not like riding a bike, you do forget.

Like climbing a mountain, writing music is just one step at a time.

Anyway, sorry for the thread de-rail folks. As you were.

I like that, moody and atmospheric, well that’s how I’d describe it.

Couldn't resist this old enamel sign - local business, now gone sadly but very much a legend here in Bath.
I am gutted. Remember the sign in the Window when I was a student

‘No Stairway!’
There was one in Swindon too!!!

On the subject of signs, went into a junk shop last weekend that I've been passing for years but never stopped to venture in. I could have spent a small fortune. I fell utterly in love with this huge sign:

Got home, did a bit of research and it's an old destination blind from a London bus that has been stuck down to the weightiest piece of MDF in the world. Loved it so much I went back and bought the other he had 😳
Wasn't overly frivolous though, in fact I think £45 each was a bargain as I've seen single blinds on their own reach more.
