We're at a cross roads - we could be heading towards a cold spell, or it could get washed away by that pesky ocean
Stand down, the Atlantic won - as usual.

Those of you in the high points of the spine of the country (RAs... etc) - could see some good snowfall later this week. Atlantic probably arrives back at the weekend.

Christmas still has hope... (that's hope, not certain snowfall)

Hopefully the animation helps you understand how the air temps in the atmosphere mix and move like water.

Don't write off snow over the weekend. North of the M4 perhaps - most likely in elevated places.

Keeping an eye on Saturday. Atlantic front could bring some widrspread snow - turning to rain.

Still good indications of something cold starting around Xmas.

Matt hugo,s twitter post had a reply suggesting there was a ssw coming up, What do you think puggit ??
There is very strong evidence of this happening around Christmas - effects normally take 2 weeks to be felt, so in to January.

With the way the northern hemisphere is set up, it could lead to quite the spell of winter.

Saturday still showing large areas with predicted snowfall for Saturday. Cold temps, low dew points and an Atlantic front all making for a complex mix. It will then turn mild and wet from the west - so not lasting long.

Normally as we approach the point where the charts start pointing at weather trends, we're staring down the barrel of a 14 degree brown/green Christmas and it's time to give up.

I haven't given up hope yet...

(THIS IS NOT A FORECAST OF SNOW AT CHRISTMAS)

Met Office tweet with visuals regarding the weekend: https://twitter.com/metoffice/status/1072869477765...

The cold sits just east of the UK, finally gets a push across the country just as the low pressure to our west moves east and sends a front in. Brief heavy wet snow, then warm and wet.

I'm due to get the train from Peterborough to 'Landan' on Sat to visit Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park.

One minute, it's windy, then it's windy later in the day. Is it going to be stormy?

Ta.
Wet and breezy for you. NW parts will get the proper wind

Saturday... a complete mess. Low pressure to our NW. Cold to our east.

It's a very very tricky forecast. For most it will end up as cold rain. For the unlucky it will be freezing rain - very dangerous for a short period of time.

For a few it will be snow. Might be mixed in with ice then rain.

Don't forget it's warming up after the snow - so I suspect very few people will get snowed in for long smile
