Segway Boards - confirmed illegal! Yay

I so want a go and being able to hop on and zip hither and thither with a stylish sway of the hips.
But then I get a mental image of exactly how fast I could, no would fall off one, crashing to the deck like a poleaxed winger facing Jonah Lomu.
And then I think how long everything would hurt for and decide against it. Until the next time I see one.
One one wheel ones do rather perplex me though. Are they mind controlled?

The 2 wheeled ones are surprisingly easy once you get used to small back and forth adjustments rather than throwing your entire weight forward (if that makes sense), my younger cousin has one, I swear it won't be long until people are doing tricks on themBut then I get a mental image of exactly how fast I could, no would fall off one, crashing to the deck like a poleaxed winger facing Jonah Lomu.

The one wheel versions are far better IMO lean forward for forward and backwards for back (surprisingly enough) but given they are a tad more like skateboards I find them easier to balance on
Both are much easier once you are moving however despite them being fun I certainly wouldn't shell out for one or ride them in public

I think the basis is that they're motorised vehicles so cannot go on the pavement but they cannot go on the road because unlike motorcycles and cars there isn't an MOT. So basically, the only place you can use them is on your nice new laminate flooring.
Bicycles don't have MOT's and people have no issue riding them on the road.Disastrous said:
Worse than that, if you're broadly pro the banning of things, you need to accept that you won't have much of a leg to stand on when whatever your hobby is comes under fire. Motorsport, big engines etc.
What absolutely fantastic logic! So you reckon they'll ban Formula One cars from pavements and public roads next do you?
What a of tosh! How miserable can a country be?
I was looking to get one of these for my commute to work. Its a 20 minute walk, or 2 minute drive, but on one of those airwheel things it would've been a couple of minutes. No, I'm not lazy, I work 12 hour shifts and I'm on my feet for the majority of that. Walking each way, by the time I do the arrival and leave handover, it would turn my 12 hour shift into a 13 hour one by the time I get home. This was an ideal solution for me, relaxing, no car, plug in the headphones and enjoy the scenery.
Oh well...

fk me, probably a good job they are banned - I make that an average of about 40mph! I was looking to get one of these for my commute to work. Its a 20 minute walk, or 2 minute drive, but on one of those airwheel things it would've been a couple of minutes.

My implication being that if you enjoy freedoms in your own life, it is perhaps better to adopt a live and let live policy to ensure that you can continue to.

I didn't say motorsport would be banned next. I said if you are generally pro the banning of things, you are left without a leg to stand on when the thing you enjoy draws the attention of the ban-it crowd.

So everything has to be legal or nothing will be? My implication being that if you enjoy freedoms in your own life, it is perhaps better to adopt a live and let live policy to ensure that you can continue to.
Sorry, still not making a lot more sense to me.
How about a middle ground where some things are illegal and some aren't?

exactly, they don't cause any major problems that I can see, slower than the typical cyclist riding on the pavement !
maybe limit the speed, but that's about it
Never seen one. Can't say I can even see why they could cause a problem either. Plenty more things to worry about than other people's toys.maybe limit the speed, but that's about it

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Ben Franklin
Likewise, those that standby and let things that they don't like (or care about) get stopped can have little to say when something they like is next.
