Okay, a "play" on if a job's worth doing it's worth doing well, but Sir Bruce McLaren (and this is a car forum afterall) put it so much better (and poignantly):

Apparently, upon first meeting a friend of a friend at a festival, the first words or of my mouth were "I believe I have just out-ed his hat". I have no recollection of this, but apparently that's how he remembers me.
