Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that if a substation/transformer explodes it generates EMP. Lightning and solar flares can also cause it.

I'm guessing that it's some freak power surge issue, like the one that annoyed commuters in Wales today.

NB: I have no idea what I'm talking about smile

Not an EMP. EMP would have destroyed electrical equipment, not just disabled it.
Again, Hollywood would have you believe this...

Not necessarily... Some non safety critical equipment merely has to self recover in a designated period of time... Without going into detail some thing inside aircraft merely need to be able to self recover, since EMP is a pulse if you can live without that equipment for say, 5 seconds, it is not important. If your flight control computer for example fails however.... Different equipment is designed to different standards...

No one would have believed in the early years of the 21st century that our worldFolkstone was being watched by intelligences greater than our own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns, *they* observed and studied, the way a man with a microscope might scrutinize the creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency, men went to and fro about the globeFolkstone, confident of our empire over this world. Yet across the gulf of space, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic regarded our planetFolkstone with envious eyes and slowly, and surely, drew their plans against us........

Not if they killed everyone around Folkstone who had problems, then they couldn't report what happened. This would explain the lack of any other reports on the news.

Still, every cloud has its silver lining.

Right then you bunch of tossers. All the banks locked them selves down in folkestone breifly and we have been expirenceing massive power surges this morning apprently. Just been "out and about" and half the traffic lights in folkestone are down, sainsburys is trying to restart its generators due to a power cut followed by power a surge earlier which knocked them out.

I popped into Halfrauds for some oil and there where two customers suffering seemingly complete electrical failour in there cars. Its buggered there instrument displays up for no known reason. happened at the same time...ish

So we HAVE had some strong electrical interferance here and it knocked my mobile phone out, which is very weird imho.

So we had a power cut/surge/cut/surge, but i have never expirenced one that affects a mobile.

I'll go and get in my lead lined bunker now just to please you all.

Iphones, they just work!

i highly doubt this is an electro magnetic pulse pulse (as the title suggests), probably just a series of coincidences.

that or the mayans calender is a bit st and we'll all be dead tomorrow morning

"Just been on another forum (pistonheads) and read this from a Folkstone resident:"

Its seems like Folkestone has just been hit with an EMP pulse? All my electrics just went off, phone shutdown (i was on it at time) and my sky box seems fked......

paranoia?

What could it have been?

also two cars have just stopped/ cruised to halt outside, owners scratching heads, not starting????

Really weird.

and then later:

All the banks locked them selves down in folkestone breifly and we have been expirenceing massive power surges this morning apprently. Just been "out and about" and half the traffic lights in folkestone are down, sainsburys is trying to restart its generators due to a power cut followed by power a surge earlier which knocked them out.

One suggestion is EMP Pulse, or power surges however that does not explain cars stopping!!

Any ideas?
