Are any carnivorous animals (other than humans) capable of recognizing their prey's footprints and following them?
In the rainforest I quite often see tracks of deer or tapir, with tracks of a jaguar following them. Chances are the jaguar was hunting by sight on the actual animal and didn't even notice the prey animal's tracks. But who knows?vonuber said:

Why is petrol & diesel priced at 114.9p per litre & not just 115p ?
You perceive it as cheaper. Hence things being 99p etcmattyn1 said:
It is daft but does the pump round the total cost up or down? These extra half pennies will soon add up. The issue reminded me of a case at work where someone who dealt with travel claims was only dishing out cash to the nearest 10p. This was back in the day before direct bank transfer and the odd few pence he would filter off into another account. Over the years he allegedly made a fortune - although was caught eventually.
I know the guy - Gus Gorman. Is depression always irrational?
A really good friend of mine suffers from depression, it comes and goes but it's a terrible thing to whiteness and must be much worse to suffer from.
On the face of it he’s got a pretty good life for himself, he’s not a typical PH type (he wouldn’t be seen on here) doesn’t own a car, lives modestly but well within his means so he’s got no money worries, lovely girlfriend, nice little house.
When he's not depressed and we talk about it, he goes to some lengths to explain it's not the same as being sad and most of the time when people say they're depressed they're actually suffering from "situational sadness" which will always pass, either when the situation improves or you just get used to the new normal, whereas Depression comes from nowhere.
I'm not sure he's 100% on that though, I'm sure certain things and situations trigger it, sometimes he gets in these self-destructive moods and it's like he's trying to make himself suffer, I can’t tell whether it’s the depression making him do that, or a weird desire to become depressed.

By definition it's disproportionate, but Depression (medical) may be triggered by something that it's perfectly reasonable to be depressed (pissed off) about. Put it this way If you're constantly terrified you will end up sleeping in a cardboard box under a railway arch even though you have a good income. savings, a secure job and marketable skills that's irrational.
If you start being terrified because you don't get the rise you expected and an unexpected expense takes a big chunk of your 'unexpected expense' fund it's still irrational but not quite so clear cut.
What can cause Depression is excessive stress, so it's quite likely that a situation in which it's rational to be pissed off can lead to Depression and even (perhaps especially) the sufferer themselves can't tell that they are clinically Depressed as opposed to propotionately pissed off.

That is similar to experiences I have had with people who are suffering from depression, yes. It isn't something that can be thought of in a rational manner. A really good friend of mine suffers from depression, it comes and goes but it's a terrible thing to whiteness and must be much worse to suffer from.

I know many many more people who "say" they are depressed but are not really, they are just sad for a bit because of some immediate circumstances making them a bit glum at the time,
Actual depression comes from something a lot less straightforward and is not related at all to outside circumstances such as wealth, health, quality of life etc. Mental health is horribly mis-understood by so many, and hugely abused by many others to create such a negative image.
Depression isn't sadness. Sadness isn't depression.
This fundamental 'just cheer-up' misunderstanding is responsible for most of the damage this situation is causing.
Just as a non-jogger can need his knees replacing, or a fit and healthy person can have a heart-attack, any person in a 'happy' life situation can be deep underwater with depression.

Very true, and the fear of being told "your life's a doddle, you've got healthy kids, a lovely wife, a big house and a Mercedes! Pull yourself together!" is preventing people from asking for help.Put it this way If you're constantly terrified you will end up sleeping in a cardboard box under a railway arch even though you have a good income. savings, a secure job and marketable skills that's irrational.

Completely untrue. There are any number of reasons why an individual can become sad, anxious or withdrawn - or worse. There are also a number of theories that seek to explain the condition, from Freud's psychodynamic approach to Beck's negative self-schema to operant conditioning and on and on. My point is - some very smart people from the world of psychiatry/psychology can't agree so I think it's unlikely we can nail the cause on a car forum. popeyewhite said:

What I should have said is more along the lines of what has been said before - people who are "wealthy" "healthy" and have a "good quality of life" - as judged by others, of course, are all entirely susceptible to suffering from depression.
Anyway - this isn't just any car forum, this is PH, we should be running the world by now...
Do wildlife recognise and feel compassion their own offspring once they have flown the nest?
Sat watching a mum/dad and about 8 goslings on the stream yesterday they were being very protective of them and clearly had a close bond, and we wondered, once they are old enough, and go their own way, do the parents still recognise and love their offspring, even years later?
Its only a small stream and leads to a small lake, so they are likely to see each other again, would they just swim by and not have a clue?
Same question applies to all animals, cats whose kittens get sold in the next street over, lions in the mountains, fish in the lakes.

If you go to prison and end up being bummed against your will in the showers, etc..
Are the prison rapists prosecuted or is it 'just one of those things that happens..'
You don't see many cases reported in the papers of 'Psycho Mcbd currently detained at HM's pleasure charged with aggravated rape' etc.

They are not. Partly because no inmate in their right mind would provide evidence as a witness to such matters, and nor would their evidence be held in much regard by a jury. Are the prison rapists prosecuted or is it 'just one of those things that happens..'

There is actually 2 questions
No1: Why do always the useless pieces of sts are the ones that get promoted?
No2: Is one of my colleagues the same one in the first question, how can you accumulate 10 kilos every bloody year you lived? That saying she's about my size, 178 cm, 25 y.o. and about 250 kilos fat? How is that even possible? It's easier to jump over her rather then going around....
