Wow, some experts on here in terms of covert disposal smile How would you go about disposing of a bath and frame? Bear in mind I have a grey bin for landfill and it's one of those smaller thinner ones.

Except caaaancil that is.
My bin lives permanently down at the bottom of our drive, about 1km from the house. I suppose it's a case of " once council, always council".

Not a wheelie bin, but black sacks - Managed to get rid of an entire garage worth of junk, an office chair and a single bed in a single collection with some dissasembly across black bags.

Skips worth of crap all collected; Tipped the bin men for their service - Much cheaper :P

Most modern baths are fibreglass or plastic so can be broken up quite easily. Metal frame will bend or easily cut up too.

My Jigsaw always comes in handy for chopping up stuff like baths. Makes short work of plastic and goes round corners nice and easily.

Nice to see people being considerate in what they're sending to landfill (via the bins) rather than the appropriate disposal method.

You're not much better than fly tippers.

Pre Covid Council tips were far far easier to use. These days I have to have an account, book a slot several days in advance and woe betide any poor soul whose bit early or late.

Make recycling difficult and people will fail to recycle.

They also like to change the rules on the fly. We used to have a blue bin and it was always the "paper bin". Now its for plastics and our paper goes in general waste with the non recyclables.

I prefer it, much better than turning up on a Sunday morning and finding a mile long queue to get in.

Yes, I think I'd prefer that too. Since COVID, ours only allows a few cars in the tipping area at a time, which means the already long queues have got even longer.

I suggested to a local councillor that what they need is a webcam, accessed from a page on the council's website, which shows a picture of the current queuing situation. Then you could check it on your phone before setting off - massive line of cars ... "I'll check again later". An online booking system would be even better though.

At our local tip - the impression you get on arrival is that they'd really rather you weren't there, and the whole operation seems to be setup to be as awkward as possible to actually get rid of stuff. I wonder if that's why we all cram things in to our wheelie bins instead? hehe From watching the news, it seems that many of the items we try to carefully recycle properly, end up in a huge pile in a third World country in any case.

My late Mother was the Queen of wheelie bin disposal. One day she'd have a chair, the next a collection of tiny pieces, no bigger than an inch that she'd chuck in the bin. It was a talent to be fair. Had she have ever felt the need I'm pretty sure she could have disposed of a body biggrin

The last dishwasher I disposed of went on freecycle.

Bloke arrives during torrential downpour in MX5, roof down, front seat removed dishwasher fits a treat.

Apparently dismantled the solenoids and valves etc are useful for an eco heating project.

If you're on here then wavey
Waiting for the next post where someone disposed of an MX5 via their wheelie bin laugh

Our trash company was paid to do a 'large item pickup'. I put 2 of 3 pieces of a large couch out for this. Like at the tip, they just feed it in and crush it up. If and when I get rid of the third piece, I'll just smash it up and put it in the wheelie bin, job done; they're just wood and fabric.

I've a cast iron double kitchen sink to go out next. It's boxed and will go out next to the trash to see if they'll just take it. If not, it gets smashed to st and goes out in pieces.

I'd stick that on Facebook as a freebie, someone will love that for a veg planter.

Not this one.

Put mildly, it wouldn't take much to reduce it to small pieces. It's in a sorry state. I'll likely put the faucet on facebook for $10 or so; it's in good condition.

I've used my wheelie bin over the years to get rid of plenty of car batteries, various BMW e46 rear subframes (we kept getting sent the wrong one, so ended up with 3 useless old subframes before someone eventually sent us the correct model), old office chairs, several single mattresses (they are a PITA to disassemble to pieces small enough to fit in a bin), a selection of MGTF body panels, exhausts, and several sets of office drawers.
The scrappy will give you cash for them, why throw away money?

Not an MX5 but I know someone who disposed of a fibreglass bodyshell via wheelie bin.

He can try. If he succeeds, I'll pay whatever fine I get. This is unlikely, given my location.
