Talbot Horizon, mate had one and the engine grenaded itself, over the course of a few months it was cut up and disposed of in the bin, they were collected weekly in the early 90's.

I've used my wheelie bin over the years to get rid of plenty of car batteries, various BMW e46 rear subframes (we kept getting sent the wrong one, so ended up with 3 useless old subframes before someone eventually sent us the correct model), old office chairs, several single mattresses (they are a PITA to disassemble to pieces small enough to fit in a bin), a selection of MGTF body panels, exhausts, and several sets of office drawers.
The scrappy will give you cash for them, why throw away money?
Where's the fun in that!

This could turn into the first ever case of a random citizen in the UK writing to somebody in Africa to say they need help transferring a large amount of cash from a dormant bank account!

I'd have thought when the crusher compacts the rubbish the battery would short causing a fire or explosion (albeit it muffled but may be powerful enough to eject all the sofas, bricks and other rubbish out the back of the wagon)??

I had a pile of old fireworks I wanted shot of and thought about putting them in the bin but worried about setting the bin wagon on fire so put them in the compost heap instead!

I did consider it but for the hassle vs return (about a fiver per battery) it was more efficient to dump in bin over a couple of weeks.

I suggested to a local councillor that what they need is a webcam, accessed from a page on the council's website, which shows a picture of the current queuing situation. Then you could check it on your phone before setting off - massive line of cars ... "I'll check again later". An online booking system would be even better though.
Mine have a webcam, it is sadly potato quality

The last dishwasher I disposed of went on freecycle.

Bloke arrives during torrential downpour in MX5, roof down, front seat removed dishwasher fits a treat.

Apparently dismantled the solenoids and valves etc are useful for an eco heating project.

If you're on here then wavey

In the late 60's/early70's my Dad used an old A35 I think it was as a shed to store cement while he built a garage around it, then once built he cut it up and binned it over many weeks! Obviously pre wheely bins so quite an effort with the old small tin bins!

To this day he dismantles most things before throwing them out but does like to see how things work smile

Nice to see people being considerate in what they're sending to landfill (via the bins) rather than the appropriate disposal method.

You're not much better than fly tippers.
laugh and where do you think the black bins get emptied out into? Fair chance it's the same landfill as the skips!

The ‘no other option but landfill’ skips you’re probably right, but my local recycling has about 30 other options before you have to resort to the landfill skip.
