Wasn't a tv. Laptop. Apparently it's because their customers are too stupid to hold onto proof of purchase. That's what they told me anyway. Not in those words, obviously.

To be fair, a laptop is capable of receiving and displaying TV content.
The whole proof of purchase thing seems just a scam though as you say, anything electrical has umpteen serial numbers and barcodes, if these places wanted to keep proof of purchases for themselves it really wouldn't take much to scan some barcode or serial in and store it. That way they would always have proof that the item was brought at xyz store on xyz date.

Aside from none of those places being "decent", I totally agree.

When I go into a decent coffee house, Caffè Nero, Costa, Pret, ask for a black coffee, and they say, "Would you like milk in that?"
Decent? Really?
I meant ones that you'd expect to know better, not a greasy spoon that sells instant granules, but I think that you both knew that.
Maybe neither of you guys like the ones I specified, perhaps none of them would be my first choice either, but I would think that the baristas employed in them would know that a "black coffee" means coffee without milk.

This name in use in the UK. It is basically a canteen with better formica tops and a posh hot water dispenser.

They tell you they have to, It's The Law!!! No.. It's Not Law at all! Had this a few years ago, "We have to record your details....." I interrupted and told them they didn't, it was pure BS from TVL and if they wanted to sort out a credit immediately,(sale had already gone through), then they could, but I'd e mail their MD. They looked embarrassed, I walked out with the TV.
I bet store staff love you.
Your address details are sent to TVL, whether it's "the law" or not. That's what the details are taken for and that's what happens
Why would they send it on, they don't have to. What does the store get out of it?

I think the law changed in 2013 and you are no longer required to give that information.

Coming as I do from a scientific background, people describing something as "perfect" annoys me. They usually mean "ideal" or "optimal".
As we are not all from scientific backgrounds....Sometimes you've got to say it as it is...

People talking in theaters/cinemas.

Went to the Royal Albert hall last night to see the space spectaular.

A couple to one side and some women behind talked pretty much all the way through.

What is so important that it cant wait 1 fking hour until the intermission.

I play pool, most days, small single frame wagers. Have done for years.

What annoys me is the number of times when people say, 'arent you lucky getting that white ball back just where you wanted it to be'.

I seem to be one of the few tea drinkers left. I end up in coffee shops quite a lot, not by choice, but you can't get a decent cup of tea in one. It seems to be either st catering tea bags or you get a Twinnings tea bag with a bit of string on it, the bag is not big enough to let the tea move around and brew.

As Dave Gorman observed in one of the episodes of "Modern Life is Good-ish", you get given a "tea-making kit" when you get a cup of tea in a coffee shop - a tea bag, a cup of hot water, and some milk. It's very hard to get an actual decent cup of tea.
