I have a couple of Amazonian Indian blowpipes, and darts to go with them. I once had kids at my children’s primary school field day shoot darts into a grapefruit target. Should I surrender them to my local police station?
Have a read of the legislation and guidance, but from my reading - yes
I know this is an old post...but the blowpipe ban does amaze me. What exactly is achieved by banning something which can be made in 5 minutes from basic materials found in any DIY store, shed, etc.? How is society any safer?

Equally, how does the law distinguish between a blowpipe (clearly a deadly weapon...) and, you know, a regular length of pipe? And of I have a 1m long section of PVC pipe in my garage, some long needles in the sewing basket and cotton wool in the bathroom cabinet, am I in possession of a delay weapon or do all these components need to be brought together in the same room before they constitute a weapon????

Anything can be a weapon be it intended, designed or adapted. When I was a response officer I got called to a couple of over enthusiastic ARV officers who were nicking a homeless lad for having the curved part of a clothes hook on him, and deeming it to be an offensive article. I knew the lad and that he used it for sticking in walls and trees to secure his mutt, but it took some convincing them.
I'm sure the lads in Birmingham and London are all gathering their weapons to be handed in, and are shaking in fear at this legislation. Like every single piece of legislation before, it has a disproportionate effect on the law abiding and no effect on the criminal element of society.

But it looks great to the "mothers against everything" and "suffering unresolved grief so need a group to target my anger against" lot.

I am pretty sure we are due some more silly pointless gun restrictions "because crazies might shoot up a school" or similar BS. I am surprised we haven't got air guns on the banning radar since scotland made them FAC only,

I would put money on the airgun ban in scotland having had no measurable effect.

I'm handing in 5 knives that have never left the house since being bought as a teenager many years ago - I have far better toys these days.

I am thinking about handing in 10 short lengths of copper pipe - got to be worth a try laugh

yeah write "zombie killer" on the copper pipe then hand it in claiming compensation. lol.

As an 8 year old I made blowpipes from 10 mm pvc tubing. It’s much cheaper than copper, so should increase the profit from your safety-increasing, civic-minded enterprise.

I’d like to thank you, you‘re a modern day hero.

Yes I handed in 11 Samurai Swords and a push dagger on Thursday. The swords were old stock from pre 2007 when VCR said we could not retail them any longer. There was no 'buy in' or 'compo' back then so they have been sat in my store room. Took the £15 each as it was better than nothing. Painted them all John Deere green because I did not want to see them on the llocal BBC news '11 Samurai swords handed in on the Isle of Wight'

Filled the paperwork in off the home office website took it to Newport police stattion to be told its the wrong form . So they printed off another one with exactly them same questions but just looked a bit different. Filled it in again. Email from HO yesterday AM agreeing to the compo and telling me I will be sent a cheque. Original form had Bank details boxes for bacs payment !

Apparently my hand in was THE ONLY ONE on the Isle of Wight in the 10 weeks ! we used to sell on averge one samurai sword a week so this legislation has created a lot of criminals over here.

I love the fact that blow pipes are now illegal and you can be paid £14 for handing them in, think I'll have a look in the metal store at work and see what we have, could be a nice little earner rofl
Blow pipes.

How many murders have been committed with blow pipes in the UK?
Meanwhile, the people we don't actually want carrying blades, will still carry blades.
I despair of what this country is becoming....

Ziplobb,

My blade knowledge is purely from forged in fire et all - but out of interest, are the swords thst you used to sell like the "novelty tourist knife" type that epicly fail in knife fight, or are they capable weapons in the "would pass a forged in fire strength test"?

Not that i'm either likely to own a blade of any meaningful nature, or if i did i certainly wouldn't "mercilessly test it against these cow bones" then test for edge retention in an apple slice - but i'm intrigued smile

Do I have to clean the dried blood off before I hand them in or do the police do that bit?

I called the local station before dropping off my collection, they have never left the house in the 30+ years I've owned them.

The woman I spoke to on the phone was friendly but wasn't the one I dealt with at the station, she acted as if I was prime suspect in numerous murders and even called a friend over for support as she is scared of knives FFS !

They wouldn't touch them and they were put into evidence jars, so yes I suggest you wipe them down first

My Katana cost over £2000, hand-forged and a 'real' sword. I know a collector who has swords worth 10x that each from Japan!

Not a chance any are being handed in! :haha:

Obvs in my case no problem as I don't live there anymore.

Can someone just clarify in simple terms what this new law means?
I have two approx five inch fixed blade knives and several lock knives around four inches, they never leave the house but does this new law mean it's illegal for me to even own them?

Drive it fix it repeat

Where is this new sword legislation covering? I’m south of England. I’ve a few swords that I bought as a job lot with some quality knives, if I could get £15 each for them I’d take there hand off!

If they are ‘plain’ knifes you are ok (if outside must be able to prove they are for work etc) same thing for me but I also have my Grandad’s kukri which he got in Burma circa 1942, but I shall not be using it for the same things as he did though...

Just to update - the Home Office have confirmed within 24 hours that they are sending me a cheque for my full £180 claim (so presumably my bank details were just used to prove ID)

TBH I was expecting some wriggling particularly regarding ownership / purchase but it was all very straightforward
