Just to update - the Home Office have confirmed within 24 hours that they are sending me a cheque for my full £180 claim (so presumably my bank details were just used to prove ID)

TBH I was expecting some wriggling particularly regarding ownership / purchase but it was all very straightforward
What did you hand in?

Flick knife, switchblades, gravity knife, butterfly knife - I like knives biggrin

They'd been in my loft for 20+ years as you weren't allowed to sell them I wasn't sure what to do with them so this scheme was handy but I doubt it has removed a single knife that was carried on the street

Brings back memories after a school trip to France, suddenly there were lots of flick and butterfly knives around, ahh the 80s. You'd make front page news now most likely.

I have no idea what you're talking about as that would be illegal importation

wink

We bought loads of bangers and put them with gravel in tictac boxes to make "grenades" and threw them at each other laugh

Those tiny continental bangers were amazing, throwing at each other on the ferry may have been a thing.

I reckon we stripped Calais bare of flick knives in the mid 70s. There was a great black market in sales around school. Every lad in our year had one and we all had them in our pockets at school.

The little orange fronted shop on one of the corners on the main road through Calais town centre. The owner was Chinese and sold a lot Chinese stuff, plus Samurai type swords, large bangers, flick knives, butterfly knives CS gas and if you had asked they would probably get hold of a bazooka for you too. smile

Agreed

I was threatened by a moron with a knife the other day - for the first time in my life - he had a Stanley knife which I believe was the weapon of choice of football hooligans as they are cheap and available.

I had some illegal knives but got rid of them a while back.

I still have a large bowie knife and a locking foldable survival style knife.

Am I right in thinking these aren't actually illegal blades, you just can't carry them without good reason?

Got my Mora robust today, (with my 3x3 camping tarp)

Always liked Mora, and used them at sea for years.

Do Laws often differ in the South ?
I thought the "taking their hand off" was the punch line

Correct locking folders are illegal to carry without a good reason - as are knives with blades over 3”

I bought a Mora Heavy Duty Companion in 2012 and it's still the main knife I use when messing in the garage. Mainly for prepping small sticks for the BBQ. It was the grand old sum of £12.50! I prefer the grind and it just feels right. Brilliant knives.

Yup, just absurdly high quality for the price. Used their old basic/511 model at sea, and they lasted years, and got battered.

Would like their specific bushcraft knife next, but happy with this little tank.
