Humidity right up in the Thames Valley today. First time this year for the kids to sleep on the middle floor of our house, not in the attic.
Here in Milton Keynes, this is first time since returning to the UK last Saturday after US holiday that I think I'm going to struggle to sleep - really increased humidity compared to the last week, little breeze and doesn't feel like it's going to be nearly so cool overnight.

You run a tough ship Puggit. Will you allow them extra water rations in this heat?

At bed time it was 29 in their rooms and 27 on the ground floor. Left them in their rooms, not enough differential!

Also the fire brigade put out a woodland fire behind our house tonight. 3 pumps and a land rover. Kudos to the emergency services.

Day 4 of rowing the Thames from Oxford to London and the heat is brutal. Coming through Henley and Marlow today and things were very toasty. The water helps but we are exposed in the sun. Still some fab views and scenery.

Just camped on the edge of the river and we were sat outside with only tshirts and shorts on until 11pm.

Forecast still looking good so hoping for cool beers when I return home.

Is there any sign of a break to this weather? Yesterday it was 29 by 11am, and too hot for me to do anything! The woodlands that my archery club is in is like a tinder box and we are seriously considering limiting access or closing until we get some rain.

No sign of a let-up this week.

Mrs DS and I ebiked to Aberdovey yesterday. I took this pic on the golf course.

The brown stuff isn’t sand. It’s grass.

Walked the dog early today, before the heat. Found the fire spot, I'm sure it's just a coincidence that it's near our travelling friends... Just like 2 years ago. Pure coincidence.

Someone made a comment the other day and they may be right in that the heat from say 20 years ago was nice and warm/hot and dry but the heat we have today is much more humid and difficult to cope with - what gives?

20 years ago the heat was great - I remember playing football etc but couldn't imagine wanting to do it in this heat.
But it’s not been humid! Here on the south coast the humidity is currently 45%, that’s about as high as it’s been since this heatwave started. It’s been noticeably dry if anything hence there being no dew on the car in the morning.
30% here (Manchester), it's noticeably dry if anything.

Still no end in sight. This heat is in for the long haul.

My best guess at a break down is 21st July. Mainly as that's when my kids break up and it's traditional for the weather to turn.

Looks like United Utilities in the NW are struggling:

I am loving this heat. It's better than the usual heatwaves we get. No humidity. I'm sat in the garden now, the sun is blocked by the trees , it's a nice warm temperature. Just right.

Nice to be rewarded after having to put up with such a ste winter.

However, according to the BBC:

"Meanwhile, figures show last month was the driest June on record in south-east and central southern England."

So it won't take long for the lawn brigade to waste all that treated, drinkable water on keeping their grass a lovely shade of green.

I’ve been sat on the balcony at work during my breaks this evening. Glorious.

hehe

Seriously though - there is some indication of a change in weather mid-July. At this point it is one option from one model. Most models continue to point to extended high pressures and heat.

Generally speaking, more humidity, some thunder is certainly to be expected later this week and onwards. South will get the heat, humidity and thunder more than the north - of course.
