Monk strap shoes, especially doubles.

Do they look better on the shelf than on the foot?

Yes. Along with wholecuts.

Depends on your style and preference of course.

Personally, I think a decent double monk looks great in brown.

Right then chaps.

Some first-hand experience of the pitfalls of closed channel stitching and the remedy (or better still preventative measure).

As you can see the channel which conceals the stitching can lift if the adhesive fails (which it did here).

The answer is countersunk metal toe taps which I have now had installed.

Whilst the leather could be indefinitely glued back and of course the channel will eventually wear through the toe taps will protect the toe from excessive wear and prevent the channel rolling up in that area.

Are the modern incarnation of the Air Max as comfortable as I remember the originals to be?

Must sort a pair before we go on holiday next spring - we walk for miles in and around the cities we visit, good running type shoes are essential!
I've tried on the more conventional pairs of Air Max and never really been floored by the comfort. I'd definitely endorse the Ultra Essential models, which are markedly lighter and provide cushioning I was impressed by. The main difference between the Ultra Essentials and the original style is the sole, which seems to be one lightweight unit. I don't own a pair as they're usually £105 or so.

I couldn't even dance before I had them fitted.

No, though I'm fairly certain you knew that.

Very comfortable but heavy compared to modern running style trainers. More of a fashion trainer than anything you'd do sport in.
I can't notice the weight, but first time out they feel a bit narrow... Pinch slightly inside ball of foot when they flex... I think they look super cool though.

Definately fashion trainers not for running

For trudging about in winter and for messing about doing snowy things in Trondheim in January, I bought these to replace my ancient and stinking TNF Chilkats:

Cannot describe how comfy they are. Like sliding your feet into a vagina.

I'd be annoyed if I spent £100+ on some boots and they were getting wet on the inside...

Ok team, my chosen boots are finally here. They're beautiful, but they have leather souls.
So before they venture out from my warm carpets into the big wide world, is there any heather care I should do?
Advice on maintenance welcome as I don't have in memory any experience of leather bottomed footwear.

No comments on the boots, but I am interested in the story behind those transparent plastic trousers.

Don't we all have transparent trousers?
