Quick Q.

My brother has a very expensive set up from Cybex they bought new from JL 6yrs ago when my niece was born.

Includes car seat 0-24m, isofix base, buggy and cot. All in original packaging etc.

This has only been used for my niece who's an only child. It's basically as new.

I know it's carrying precious cargo, but is there any particular reason why it can't be used by us in ~6m time?

I know it's in good condition and never been involved in an accident or anything, it's not like it's being sourced from a randomer. Would be good if it could be used again by us.

Yes. I know I'm thinking too far ahead at the mo.

We've done exactly this - Cybex E-Priam, car seat, accessories etc from a friend in a similar circumstance, cant see any issue tbh

Just checking back into this, had the twins via C-Section on the 28th December at 36 weeks, wife had 3 nights in ward due to pre-eclampsia just before Christmas, was discharged then asked to come back in not long after but was able to negotiate coming back in on Christmas day night after we'd had dinner and seen family. Original due date was 26th January, brought forward to 5th January, then 29th December, then ultimately 28th December. C-Section had to happen under general anaesthetic as the spinal block didn't fully work and when they did the initial cut into her she could feel it. Discharged on the 30th December.

Managing now, in somewhat of a rhythm with sorting two out at once, was OK where they would sleep for a couple of hours and only wake for a feed/change, but is varying sometimes now where they could either sleep for a couple of hours or as little as an hour.

I bought almost all my stuff from ebay. the only item I would advise you to buy new, if you can, is the car seat. if money is tight I would not worry about it too much if you can't.

think it if it the other way round- your brother knows how precious this cargo is, would he let you use it if he had any doubts?!?

but coming from a known source, i wouldn’t have any doubts. we passed a car seat on to friends and plenty other baby stuff

Oh I'm not for a second questioning either the quality or the care taken of the gear they have/are offering.

My main train of thought was along the lines of safety changes through age or use, squashing padding ot foam down and/or integration and dating of airbag etc. I realise car airbags and seats last for tens of years so likely just me over thinking it. 2yrs of usage is nothing in the grand scheme of things I suppose and automotive plastics take a lot longer than that to start to degrade in performance

Loads of things there, really congratulations and good luck with your twins!. We are on our 8 months of old officially, and I'm yet to see an uninterrupted sleep since the birth, seriously. (including today). I'm usually quite used to not getting enough sleep due to long hours of corporate work and hardcore university days, but my body says literally "help me" finally.

Congrats fellow twin dad! We were in survival mode for about two months, so you’re more than half way there!

Do many child seats actually have airbags integrated?

Took the covers off our seats recently to wash them and there’s not a lot to them really - a hard polystyrene shell and it would be pretty obvious if there was anything wrong with it. So much ste talked about the risks of second hand equipment mainly by - quelle surprise - the people who want to sell you brand new stuff! Would not hesitate, particularly from a known source.

I have not seen any with built in air bags. I’ve got a Recaro Tian Elite which supposedly has SIPS but the reality is some plastic blocks which attach to the side of the seat head rest.

Weighs less than half the weight of the fancy 360 swivel things, if you still care about car performance.

Had our 36 weeks scan today (at 35.5 weeks) and everything seems to be going too well....

Our baby is a unit, they guess her current weight at 6lb 10 oz. This puts her at the 90th centile, or 9 and a half pounds at 40 weeks.

I feel for my wife....

You're right, no airbags. I hadn't actually looked into it, my brother assumed SIPS meant airbags. It does not.

In which case it'll be fine smile

That'll make her eyes water!

My wife's pal has just had a sweep at 39weeks. They want to try and speed it up because it's very small and not growing. Hopefully all will be ok...

Just to possibly help put your wife’s mind at ease, the way they take the measurements has such a lot of variability in it that the calculations can add up to an extremely wrong number. It’s really a guess at best. I did the same as you. The estimated weight for our first ended up being over 1.5lbs different from birth weight - around 20%.

Indeed, although looking at the most recent pictures she looks like a Buddha, so fat!

Only other issue is yesterday evening (after the scan in the day) my wife had a call saying they've got a potential cardio issue with her (not baby) so that's my Tuesday sorted running her around between appointments.

My guess is either a heartbeat issue (to me it looked weird on the trace with a step in it) or it'll be related to preeclampsia (she was initially a risk and has been on aspirin until now and screening as ok until now).

I think it was our 38 or 39 weeks last scan, all look pretty peaceful and planning for 1-2 weeks later for C-section, but he decided to come out the next afternoon, less than 24 hours. laugh (C sec again). There was not any strong pain or cramps, just water broke and arrival, we were pretty un-organized yet.

Had our 32 week scan yesterday (At 32+3) - twin 2 is doing absolutely fine, coming in 49th percentile, sitting at about 4lbs at the moment. Twin 1 I'm beginning to get a little bit worried about, not overly so, but the worry is there. It's coming in about 9th/10th percentile, about 3lbs 7oz. We've got another scan booked in 2 weeks. Both head down at the moment and have been for 2 scans now.

Well I can no longer ever join this post again. Had the old snipperoo yesterday. Interesting experience to be honest. If any dads thinking of getting it done I’m happy to answer any questions

Had mine done ASAP after sprog #2 rocked up! Probably deserves a thread of it's own, the subject came up in conversation with a few mates at a party at our place over Christmas, those of us that have had it done already all had fairly different experiences of it! Definitely recommended though, IMHO.

Yeh basically every man on my team at work have had it done. i'm 1 year into sprog no 2 being born that i've had it done although i did ask to cancel my first appointment as it was in august last year in that mental heatwave when the temp was going to be in the 40's.
