Not people to overstate the weather (I drove through a blizzard with visibility a few feet and gusts of 80mph last week and the weather service mentioned a footnote about snow showers), Iceland have released their first ever Red weather warning for the next two days with gusts of 150mph+ and 100-200cm of snow forecast

No snow in the central belt of haggisland.
Winds and pouring rain is the order of the day.
This is where the superb lack of drain maintenance by my local council comes to play with big puddles to be splashed in by the Land Rover*.
I'm in Holyrood. Wow - that wind....Winds and pouring rain is the order of the day.

We're at one of those crossroads type positions. A cold, and potentially snowy, Xmas Day is not impossible. Nor is it forecast. Plenty of ways that cold could still arrive - plenty of ways that warm and wet could too.
However, the polar vortex isn't particularly powerful, so less chance than normal for an Atlantic battering.
