There's already some snow in Aberdeenshire.

Hopefully more falling this week.
Crisp and cold in Edinburgh - heading to the Xmas market at Waverley now...

Not people to overstate the weather (I drove through a blizzard with visibility a few feet and gusts of 80mph last week and the weather service mentioned a footnote about snow showers), Iceland have released their first ever Red weather warning for the next two days with gusts of 150mph+ and 100-200cm of snow forecast eek
We expect a live video feed. Do it for the thread...

No snow in the central belt of haggisland.

Winds and pouring rain is the order of the day.
This is where the superb lack of drain maintenance by my local council comes to play with big puddles to be splashed in by the Land Rover*.

  • only when people or cars won’t be affected.
I'm in Holyrood. Wow - that wind....

I will ignore the jibes tongue out

And on that note... potential for some snow for many places over the weekend. Further ahead building blocks are falling in to place for a cold spell around Xmas. Even the UKMO is joining in.

I guess it's time to take a look towards the big day...

We're at one of those crossroads type positions. A cold, and potentially snowy, Xmas Day is not impossible. Nor is it forecast. Plenty of ways that cold could still arrive - plenty of ways that warm and wet could too.

However, the polar vortex isn't particularly powerful, so less chance than normal for an Atlantic battering.

I got stuck in Bristol by that jumper (after having breakfast in The City and lunch in Bristol).

GWR's handling of it was terrible. 3 intercity trains ready to go to London and they moved us from the 14.30 to the 15.30 to the 15.00. Piss up and brewery.

Keeping an eye on the big day. Hopeful for cold weather, currently chance of frost and snow on hills as low pressure finally buggers off.

Still very much in the mix - could yet turn mild.

Hopeful signs of a cooler, drier period starting just before Xmas. Also hopeful signs of some high pressure building near the UK towards New Year.

Meanwhile - wet and windy...

Much stronger signals for high pressure over Xmas. Goodbye rain!
