Snow due this week?
Yes, you can close the office. Oh....

Low pressure will briefly bring a northerly wind as it passes by - some rain will turn to sleet/snow. Hills and nothern-ness count here. There is currently no agreement on where snow will fall, could be anywhere. Not disruptive at low levels, not long lasting.

Long term, lots of blocking looking likely (high pressure closing the Atlantic) - good potential, but zero certainty of a cool December.

This is NOT going to happen - but it's fun to look at... wet snow might fall in that area, but not settle like that.

Well it’s snowing now in central Scotland according to pictures I saw this morning. Flying home tomorrow so hopefully just a light dusting of festive ambience rather than runway blocking mayhem!
I can tell you all about runway blocking mayhem in central Scotland, been there, got the t-shirt, sat on the bloody runway for hours! Also managed 3 bottles of BA champagne (the minis) on LHR-EDI due to a closed runway. hehe

Plenty more snow possible, but with the low swirling around, there'll be warm sectors to melt it away.

For further South, M62 corridor higher areas (of which there are plenty) could well see a lot. In the SE, the snow risk is probably shifting further SE - so London and Kent might see it instead of the Home Counties.

He said 'Yass' - seems to be a town just north of Canberra. I'm struggling to believe there's snow there in the summer hehe

I will never accept that Slough is part of Berkshire. It is north of the river. It was artificially put within the county council borders for about 20 years, then it became unitary, so there's absolutely no need to consider it part of Berkshire ever again. Berkshire no longer exists as anything other than a Ceremonial county, and Slough is Ceremonially in Bukinghamshire, if it has to be considered part of any county.

This is my hill, I shall die on it, and no dissent will be brooked.

As for Maidenhead, I just try to ignore it as it is no use to anyone.
I grew up in the Chalfonts - we had a Hemel postcode and Wycombe phone number. But those in the wrong part of the Chalfonts were ridiculed for their Slough phone numbers and post codes hehe

Sounds very localised in the east then, I'd say we've had an inch in Thaxted
It's forceast to swing through Lincs and end up on the M62 corridor later. Manchester and east of there might see some.

Funnily enough this post led me to look at the long range forecast for NW England and there's snow forecast for 25 Dec.
Yes, the GFS model, which many apps use, has a howling easterly on Christmas Day. Way beyond the scope of possibility though, anything more than 5 days is utter tosh.

That said - the northern hemisphere weather profile is totally wrong. Nothing 'normal' about it all. So strange weather could take place. No howling Atlantic weather in the foreseeable future. No disruptive snow either.

Another fog warning for large parts of England from 4pm tonight. Although as other locals have posted - it hasn't left yet from last night's warning.

Fog has lifted here, and rumour has it that some (light) surprise snow is on the cards for west of London and Chilterns...

No one else got snow yesterday? I know is snowed quite well in Alton (Hants) but didn't settle.

Looking forward - no sign of cold for Xmas yet, but plenty of potential in the far distance.

The Polar Vortex normally sits around NE Canada. It's an area of low pressure in the upper atmosphere and just sits in that location and that helps drive the jet stream across the Atlantic. The Jet Stream does a great job of picking up small areas of low pressure and turning them in to the monster lows we 'enjoy'.

So - creates 'Atlantic' weather for us.

It's not there currently - it's over Siberia. High pressure is likely to form to our north - keeping the Atlantic even quieter. Moving the PV can also help pull it apart. This creates Sudden Stratospheric Warming, which helps create winds from west to east (against the spin of Earth). Winds from east = cold...

Potential stays the word. There are charts showing an easterly wind for Xmas Eve, but this is so far away that if anyone believes them they're a fool.
