Would you buy a "Notorious" house/building ?

There's a 'notorious' house on my road, a few doors down from my house. A few years back, the owner committed suicide by throwing herself off the church tower opposite.
Subsequently, the house was sold, but the new owners claimed it was haunted to such an extent that they quickly moved out, and rented another house whilst they tried to sell it.
Eventually, it did sell, after a long time on the market, but at around £100k less than similar houses go for, way less than the asking price.
I don't know what's dafter, believing you're haunted or telling everyone you are and wiping value off your largest asset Subsequently, the house was sold, but the new owners claimed it was haunted to such an extent that they quickly moved out, and rented another house whilst they tried to sell it.

Not really notorious, but at the bottom of our road (a hundred yards or so) is a monument to the jackobites who were hung, drawn and quartered on their way back up with bonny prince charlie.
Tales in old books of ghosts and witches abound!

Went to view my first ever house in mk with the then ex g/f every thing looked great New build i asked why the back garden looked like a bomb had hit it,estate agent said right i was just getting to that and by law i have to tell you what happend.Family with two young kids that lived here he was a policeman killed his wife and kids buried them in the garden and put a rope to his neck in the garage and commited suicide.Ex was not happy but it did not bother me as the price was very good,we did not buy it.
I worked on that job. Tragic. He went into work for several days while his wife was under the patio before he killed himself. IIRC, he gassed himself rather than hanging.Edited by Carnage on Wednesday 19th October 20:08

I was involved in this in 1996, not the 1461 events,
lots of bodies turn up around old buildings.

Two of the last owners died in our house. We've heard too many things, the remote always putting itself in a certain place (we are lazy and forever dropping it behind cushions, in the sofa then asking/blaming each other) so suddenly it started appearing in the exact spot when we went to find it.
Of course its all rubbish as a massive galaxy with the minds capacity and still many things beyond our understanding. We are still driving around on rubber circles on fossil fuel 120yrs on yet ghost sceptics think 'we' are advanced enough to debunk ghosts etc existence..
Every time we have an 'occurence' we just pop it in the 'hmmmm' box
why not put cameras up to watch the ghost move your remote controllers back in there place?Of course its all rubbish as a massive galaxy with the minds capacity and still many things beyond our understanding. skeptics aren't discrediting it based on not being advanced enough as a species to understand, its based on a lack of any credible evidence.
never mind the two owners who died within your house, what about the 108+ billion who have died across the world - ghosts should be much more common.

Gosh, you're so close-minded skeptics aren't discrediting it based on not being advanced enough as a species to understand, its based on a lack of any credible evidence.

Whilst I am pretty open minded (see my post on the previous page), I'm curious as to why after hearing noises and believing objects to have moved by themselves- but never actually in front of one's eyes- the immediate conclusion is ghosts? Sure, if you were to witness an object actually being moved right in front of several people's eyes, I could understand it a bit more.
To my mind, it seems like it is the prior knowledge of someone having died in the house that is causing this to be the default conclusion. Would you have reached the same conclusion if you had no knowledge of anyone having previously died in the house?
Or would you have put the 'moving controllers' down to absent mindedness / muscle memory etc? (like when you drive through a set of lights but immediately can't recall seeing it on green- your subconscious has taken care of it all for you)
Not trying to be in any way confrontational about it, I am genuinely curious- I find the whole subject extremely interesting
As per my post on the previous page, I put most 'supernatural experiences' down to the ability of our minds to do staggeringly amazing things that we have yet to fully understand, causing us to perceive things based on certain stimuli (see sleep paralysis etc), rather than there being any actual physical presence.
The biggest, number one factor causing me to doubt the existence of 'ghosts' in their traditional sense, is why are they so shy? Why aren't they incredibly common and why are they so afraid to be seen? Even side-stepping the issue of the number of ghost sightings vs number of people who have died (ever), why do we not see millions & millions of animal/insect ghosts? Even if only the tiniest percentage of the total number of dead humans/animals/insects came back as ghosts, the world should be absolutely flooded with them.
They should certainly be getting increasingly common given the exponential growth of the population (and consequently deaths), yet instead, if anything, they seem to be getting rarer- largely down to a better understanding of natural phenomena providing rational explanations in an ever increasing number of cases.
That's my take on it anyway- sorry for the slight thread divergence.

PS. Recently he was replacing a washing machine or tumble drier in the utility room, when he pulled the appliance out he found a 12" chrome silver disc with a pullup handle and two slots covered with a rotating disc, this turned out to be an expensive looking floor safe the type with a thick plug style locking top, which sits flush with the floor. No keys, obviously, but my money would be on the safe having something in it.
He just placed his new appliance were the old one was carried on as normal, I would have to try and open the safe, I wouldn’t be able to leave it alone, I keep asking him if we can dig it out, he is not interested at all.
This deserves a thread all on its own, 'Gangsters safe in my floor' would be good. You could provide daily updates with pictures, maybe use a red MX5 to pull the safe out the ground or something.
what was inside that Nazi bunker?...
In my previous house, I used to have a dog. One morning after a nightshift, I gave him a walk and shut him downstairs in the dining room, then I went to bed.
At 10:00am I woke up to hear what I thought was my dog climbing the stairs, then walking across the landing and sniffing around the bedroom doorways. My first thought was "how did he get out of the dining room?" I called out to him as my bedroom door just pushed open, there was no latch on it. When he didn't come in, I just thought "sod you then" turned over and went back to sleep. When I awoke again a few hours later, I went downstairs and he was still shut in the dining room.
Now, I bought that house off my best mate. When he lived there, his wife was in hospital having their first child. He had been with her most of the night and decided to come home and get some kip. He woke up (in the same bedroom as above) at 10:00am to hear human footsteps climbing the stairs, walk across the landing to the bedroom door, then nothing. stting himself, He shouted out "hello?" But got no reply. He jumped out of bed and opened the door, but there was nobody there.
He didn't tell me about this until I told him about my experience. He said he was a proper sceptic before that, but swore that the place was haunted afterwards.

I've had very interesting experiences which can't be rationally explained.
All that means is that you don't know the rational explanation, not that there isn't one.People die in houses all the time. I wouldn't give it a second thought. I hope some of you worriers never have to stay overnight in hospital, as the chances are hundreds of people will have died in your bed.

I have spent a month in hospital before by the way, it was fine.
