How about find someone with no money, who has struggled through life and has only given back to people what he never received.

Bit of a leftfield choice but Keanu Reeves (daft name aside) must be in with a shout; movie star, played guitar in a rock band, petrolhead and looks far to young for his age (52).

That would be great, but sadly those people rarely get to see the limelight and we don't get to hear about them.

What was the name of that chap who saved all those Kids lives in WW2 and they surprised him years later when he met some of them? If anything, people like him are just too good to be merely 'cool'.

Whilst that's a lovely idea, it's a lovely idea for another thread. Trouble is, on the internet it doesn't really work, as barely anyone would have even heard of the 'nominees' and have even less idea about their 'worth' as the "World's Coolest Man".

Better to stick to the well known (and well worn clichés) so that we all have half a chance of recognising who it is that's being talked about. Nominating your local lollipop man, etc, would kill the thread very quickly indeed.

Ranulph Feinnes,

Yup, well certainly the coolest I have met. Elon Musk would be a close second for being seemingly very modest, but also very very rich and starting a company that can land rockets. bow

Chris Hadfield?

Smart as anyone, has sat on a big rocket and been blasted into space, has done spacewalks, has lived on the International Space Station and received an endorsement from David Bowie.

On the other hand, he has a moustache.

People you've met?

An afternoon in the pub with Malcolm Hardee was rather memorable.

I cannot think of a bigger twit than Elon Musk. Cool he very much is not.

Obama wins it for me. I don't think he was particularly successful as a President, but my god he carried himself with class and dignity and humility at every step. Was there ever a bad photo taken of him? That's a pretty good sign of coolness actually, if there's a dodgy photo around then you're probably not the coolest in the world.

Apologies for the commie rag link but how about Danny Fields for defining decent music for the last 50 years https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/oct/07/danny...
