Now you've got me worried - the colours in those two pictures don't look exactly the same to me, but I'm seeing them as very, very similar

ETA: The Enchroma test came back fine and I've recently passed a colourblindness test for a medical check up, so maybe I'm just fussy hehe

So, have been to two garden centres now - and the local-ish marine aquarium specialist.

Wow. Too much to mention, but some highlights.
Sway, I am absolutely genuinely chuffed to bits for you!

It must be effing amazing for you, this story has really warmed my heart and cheered me up from what has been a thoroughly miserable week. thumbupbeer
Cheers bud!

Hope your week gets better, and you have a great 2020.

As I've mentioned, oddly I'm a hugely visual person - I belligerently got myself through a photography degree!

Massive on interior design, and aesthetics in general.

It's changed my life.

A poster wondered what it might be like now knowing what I miss out on. I'd say it's more like the experience of somewhere like Disney/Longleat Festival of Light - but being able to have that vibrancy/'punch' in normal life. Then go back to "normal".

Already noticing my 'regular' colour sight is improving, as my brain learns what it 'should' be seeing...

Sorry if this has already been answered, I'm interested in them too.

Enchroma offer prescription lenses - https://enchroma.com/pages/rx

I've sent a message to Pilestone asking them if they do prescription lenses as well. I'll post here when I get a response.

Both companies also offer the clip-on style lenses to go over prescription glasses (I'm not a fan of these though).

HTH
I've emailed them too. I had a pair of prescription/varifocal Enchroma glasses made early this year but they have outdoor lenses and I'd like to get some indoor ones when my I come to replace my normal glasses. However, I don't really fancy another £1k bill for the privilege! yikes

Incidentally, you can now get Enchromas in the UK, though there's still only a single optician doing them as far as I know - Eyes on St Albans, which is where I got mine and I'd highly recommend them too. The lenses still have to come from the US so turnaround is a few weeks.

As for the marine aquaria/corals/fish. I nearly cried. That's going to be a very expensive addition! I've always really loved the cheap corals/fish - yet now I know why the pricy ones are so pricy!
Thats fabulous!

Ah yes, you're a fellow fishy guy aren't you?

Here's the geeky highlights:

Bolivian Rams. Kribensis. Bronze Oranda (bought one to go with our four!).

Clowns - oh my word. Some with a fade from orange through bright to deep red/black. Spent ten minutes checking those out.

Flame Angels, and the few wrasse they had... Pyjama Cardinals...

Intense green corals are actually slightly deeper/less impactful.

However, zoas/stylo/acro/monti/favia/acans - all incredible. Depending on species, I'm either seeing patterns and intense punchy colours I've never seen - or stunning delicate pastel hues I didn't realise existed. Hermit crab legs are pretty cool - and the bright red stripe on the back of cleaner shrimp.

I could go on...

Sway, absolutely made up for you. Makes me feel quite humble to recognise how lucky I am, perfect scores in both online tests linked over the thread. How fortunate I am to be able to take the dog out on a clear frosty morning and appreciate how his Golden Retriever curls just magically glow against the white coated heather. Such simple pleasures, no longer taken for granted, thank you.

Those specs, witch craft.

I'm genuinely surprised at how many people on here are, of one type or another, colour blind. smile
In reality it doesn't really make much difference in life, which is why the genes have survived. I knew i was as my Grandad was and as it is hereditary. It's not a disability.
I didn't say it was a disability smile

Just surprised at the numbers on here, as I've never knowingly met/known anyone who is colour blind. smile

Good info - thanks.

I just had a reply from Pilestone and they say they don't do prescription lenses frown

The EnChroma site doesn't say anything about extra charges for prescription lenses so I presume it gets added when you order them. The standard lenses and frames look to be about £300

The majority probably don't know themselves.

I'm more convinced to try them now. How many times I've been with someone who points out an amazing sunset or pretty autumnal scene and I've just thought 'meh' it's alright.

Also, why isn't it a disability? I'm less able to see and distinguish things which do affect my everyday life, work, general tasks. Some jobs I can't do because of it and yet it's more common than you'd think that things are designed with seemingly no consideration for how they appear to a large portion of the population.

I'd guess that most of us don't really know it.

It only really twigged with me recently when I said 'Go grab that yellow HiViz'. The response being 'We don't have any yellow HiViz only green ones'.

Sway: Out of interest (serious question)... how do traffic lights: Red/Amber/Green look?

I understand that the sequence works so the colours are almost irrelevant... but:

I'm guessing almost blue /pale green/ more green?

For me (strong deutan) the green light looks almost white, while there is not that much distinction between the red and amber (not that it makes driving any more hazardous before anyone asks tongue out ) With the Enchromas on there's a greater difference between red and amber and the green is most definitely green - quite a revelation for me!

Just wanted to point out that all creatures see colours differently, so there is no 'right' way to see colours. There is a chance that most of us humans see incorrectly and Protans see it correctly - or more likely, we just see them differently.

Up until now, I'd have said red/pale orange/light green.

Now, I'd say "fking hell that's vibrant red" /"jesus christ my retinas orange" /rich lustrous green.

I'm understanding my vision better over the last few days.

Think of it as "muted reds, brightened greens" - meaning brown or purple just don't exist in my world. My eyes don't pick up the small amount of red.

Green is odd - it's 'lighter' but less intense. Stands out more than it 'should'. Often wondered why yellow and orange was used for hi viz - they stood out, but not 'really'... Yet with the glasses on green is richer, deeper and more intense.

I think you're the opposite to me - so where I'm 'muted reds/brightened greens' you're the inverse without the glasses?

There's a lot of similarity between protanomaly and deuteranomaly as it's all about the overlap in wavelength sensitivity between the red and green cones (red cones are sensitive to parts of the green spectrum for protanopes and green cones are sensitive to part of the red spectrum in deuteranopes) - hence many 'problem' colours are shared - and the lenses to correct either are mostly the same. The colours I have the most trouble distinguishing between are green/brown, blue/purple, pink/grey.

Colour blindness glasses filter out the wavelengths were the anomalous sensitivity overlap occurs, making the wavelengths that remain much more distinct.

BTW - thanks to the mods for leaving this in the Lounge where it will get much more exposure and discussion. When I posted in Health Matters about my Enchromas it pretty much sank without a trace... paperbag
