Why does Sarah Beeny gets megaloads of C4 primetime while producing forgettable, turgid property based TV.

It can't be the big funbags , it's 2020 not 1970.
I raised exactly the same point a few weeks ago. There is a TV celebrity merry-go-round that means we see the same dull (yes, nice boobs though) TV people in all the 'comedy' programs, documentaries, history progs etc. Someone said "because agents". But that doesn't explain why the BBC actually hire the same people time and time again. Anyone else fed up seeing Olivia Coleman everywhere? She doesn't even look like the Queen.

Does she play the Queen everywhere?

I've not had my gas meter read in about 6 years. I give regular readings, so I assume they are fine with it? I thought they might want to check that I am actually using just one unit a month over summer, as it seems a little like I'm making it up.

I doubt she takes the job home with her, if that's what you mean? She's also played Queen Anne recently.

You're fed up with seeing her everywhere and she doesn't look like the Queen.

I've lost count of the number of people I've seen who don't look like the Queen, but I'm not fed up with any of them.

And where are all these places that you're seeing Olivia Colman anyway?

If you go on IMDB or something similar there will be a resume of her TV/film roles

That's my point. In the past year, she's been in The Crown and two films. It's not 'everywhere' is it? smile

She was seemingly ubiquitous, but that was a few years ago.

This supposed phenomenon of seeing folks everywhere as if they're suddenly in fashion is fairly common, particularly with relatively new talent. You see a comedian that previously weren't aware of have a good run on Taskmaster, then they're popping up on numerous quiz shows, perhaps get their own series. Maybe it is fashion, maybe it's just a good new agent, maybe it's the industry generally jumping on a bandwagon and casting someone known to be capable of that role, maybe it's just a collision of different production schedules. Who knows , who cares.

Frankly if whoever it is gets the opportunity to get a decent amount of work under their belt, especially stuff that turns out to be well received, then good luck to them, keep their noses clean and they'll have a reasonable carry on. That industry and the public are notoriously fickle.

It is interesting during a bit of a travel through IMDB, during one of those "what the devil did they appear in" moments, just how much work some get through over a lifetime, and how little some others do.

The BBC doesn't hire talent - or as much as what you may think. It buys or commissions content that's produced by third-party production companies. Those companies often have rosters of talent, sometimes kept on a retainer to ensure availability.

Olivia Coleman is one of those actors that encourages people to watch something 'because she's in it' plus she's quite good promoting the things she's in - Graham Norton, Good Morning, etc.. So, from the production company's point of view, she and others like her, are highly marketable assets which helps to sell the stuff they make. This is why you tend to see the same actors popping up more regularly than others.

Good work if you can get it!

For 99% of other actors, you take what you can get.

I recently shot a series of social media videos for a Local Authority Campaign about fly-tipping. Hardly Hollywood! The casting agent I use charges me £180 per day per actor and I assume he's taking a £40 to £50 margin from that. Had four actors, one of whom has done numerous films (Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies being his main one), and another has done loads of big stuff, film, TV, soaps. She's currently to be seen in the Asda Christmas advert and soon, the Illegal Dumping Campaign in East London.

Those interested is scrolling through ImDB... you might also find www.mandy.com interesting. Amazing how many famous faces you can find all touting for work.

It may have a connection with the Andy Warhol quote 'Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes'. The acting profession is parlous and many have their 15 minutes and then slowly fade.

Bills that I’ve had in the past, indicated it was a legal requirement that they were checked every year...

Yes, those sibling Doctors have a full TV diary, Loose Women one day, This Morning the next,
The One Show ? well, every sodding day.

Same with Robert Rinder, he ticks diversity boxes, gay and Jewish, and a very personable
and charming chap, but why does a celeb with a holocaust past interest TV execs much more than a ordinary
Joe with family members lost in the camps ?
