I got to have a go in one of the FIL's last year - 200,000lbs and close to $800K new - took a while to get used to it and gave me soild appreciation for the skill of operators. PIcture doesn't give a real scale on the size of these

They set the course using 2 sets of 2 buoys so the race is set with down wind leg and an upwind leg which has to be completed 6 times. If the wind changes too much the judge can cancel the race or the wind is too strong or weak again cancel the race. Start rules seem odd but 1 team can enter the start area then next team certain time later. One rule that is shout out a lot is starboard right of way, when the wind is on the right of the boat that boat has the right of way and other boats have to give way and the boat in front has also right of way, simplified look of sailing racing. ajprice said:
