Anyone? confused
A little awkwardly written perhaps. Lately on PH I've noticed there has been such vitriol towards degrees and talk of them being pointless which is generally speaking, not true.

I've got 2 and I have to say that I believe degrees are worth far less than they were 40 years ago. That said, they're not worthless, they're just so commonplace that they are seen as a prerequisite rather than the mark of a genius. Universities are businesses now, and they want to get as many people through as they can. It's more the fault of the entire education system for channeling people towards uni rather than the fault of the unis themselves. Where they could be said to be at fault is offering degrees that idiot students want to do rather than the ones they country/economy/science/industry actually needs. They don't address skills gaps properly.

I quite agree, I went from 6th form college to doing an apprentiship and in the final college term/semester we were handed UCAS forms, when I responded "no thanks" I got a funny look and a load of questions as to why I didn't want to go to university, it seemed odd to them that I didn't want to go. Fast forward 11 years and I have my degree, paid for through work, paid time off etc. No debt no bks and plenty of experience in the industry along side.

When I was looking at doing a degree I was told "Its a foot in the door, your experience and how you come accross in the interview will get you the job"

Well it depends. If she has a third class degree in languages she might as well not have a degree. Most of these degrees mean nothing these days. I know people who pay to have their essays written for them.
Well she got a 2:1, and is fluent in both languages. Pretty good considering her mum and nan were both fighting breast cancer at the same time as she was at uni. Sadly her nan lost the fight. So yea, I think her degree is worth it, thanks.
Did you try explaining it in French or German?

Watching Sport Relief tonight and Daley Thompson comes on and conversation went something like this:

SWMBO "did you know he came as being gay"
Me "really, are you sure?"
SWMBO "yeah, he came out fairly recently"
Me "are you sure you don't mean Tom Daley?"
SWMBO "er, yeah that's the one......."

They employ a full time historian at fortnums, their historical record is so extensive. I've not read the Wikipedia page, but legend has it that it was a portable, durable snack for when international trips starting becoming more popular, and by that I mean to the low end upper class rather than just aristocracy.

OH says there are some white bits on the carpet, so I grabbed the hand held rechargeable Dyson vacuum from the cupboard.

She says "Well done, that will save some electricity"

Just looking online at hutches for the Kid's guinea pigs. One has quite a steep slope from the hutch to the built in run and the following conversation happens.

Her. That ramp might be too steep for them, do you think they'd manage?
Me. Yeah no problem, I'm sure they cope with worse in the wild.
Her. What? They don't live in the wild!
Me. Of course they do, where did you think they came from?
Her. Well I don't know, I've never seen one in the wild.
