I can't see even the best pilots being able to truly hover with the tail end slopping about in water.

for example... chinny water landing... just imagine the ramp is down though. In some instances the U.S. used to fit a water bourne barrier around stn382 ish in the back of it so it could be dipped in without risk of flooding too much. The top of the fuel tanks is Water Line Zero.
