Particularly when the average human has fewer than 2 legs.
How many does he/she have?
A fraction under 2. Lots of people have 1 or none, but no one has 3.
Ahem, Frank Lentini

But this average human spoken about who has less than 2 must have 1 or 0, he/she doesn't seem very average at all to me, I wonder how they got such title.

I'm not sure you understand how statistics work. Or maybe I am due a Whoosh Parrot.

Also, what about amputees who have lost only a foot, or are amputated below the knee? How does that fit in with your Integer Leg hypothesis? wink

It's more accurate to refer to the average number of legs for a human being < 2 than to the average human having < 2 legs. The latter implies a specific human.

I'd say a leg is discrete, you either have one or you don't (or 2)
They're just not necessarily the same length.

Well, the modal number of legs is 2.
The median is also 2.
But the mean is less than 2.

My grandmother was an amputee, she had a few different legs. My dad still has a couple of them, I guess that makes him well above average.

Hey diddle diddle
The median's the middle
You add and divide for the mean
The mode is the one that appears the most
And the range is the difference between

Fair enough. I'll rephrase to say far few people have 3 legs than those who have 1 or 2.
