I'd say that very much depends on the circumstances. I'm the only earner in my family with a net monthly salary of approx £3k pa. We also get some benefits, and are eligible for others that we don't claim.

We'd only be around £200 per month worse off if we claimed all the benefits we're eligible for and I gave up work. That £200 is around the same as my commuting costs so the net figure would be about equal.

Don't get me wrong, some days I do think fk it....but I actually enjoy working, providing, and supporting my family.

Can I please still be council for doing the calculations at least?
£3k net a month is about £50k a year if on PAYE, so don't see how you are are entitled to any benefits apart from Child Benefit. Unless of course you have 14 odd kids or something like that.

Having a punch up at a funeral/wake is, I reckon, very Council.
Last night wife and daughters were at the local pub, where a wake for a girl killed in a crash recently was being held, till 8 or so started a fight, trying to smash up the pub Windows etc.
And this is in a quiet village, it has some council houses but also mega bucks villas... council is a state of mind, no matter if you live in a castle or a dump.

I was thinking exactly the same, £50,000 a year is still a comfortable salary these days.

Other partner caring full time for disabled children?
Higher personal tax allowance keeping you out of top tax bracket? - Can still claim child benefit
Other partner cannot work due to disability?

It's created a bit of a stir in the office - everyone has come to have a look.

I've not been daring to ask now much they are, that's not bad for a quid as a Ginsters so-called "Large" Sausage Roll is £1.05 in Sainsburys.

A quid?

Somehow, I suspect that won't be the finest cuts of hand reared free range prize winning pigs, nurtured by caring farmers and prepared by artisanal butchers.

Why do they have to be odd?

If you're one of 14, you're inevitably a bit odd.

Aaaaand, odd kids a lot worth more in benefit bingo.

I'm doing one of those fasting diets at the moment and I'm sticking to 400 calories a day, so that would feed me for 4 days.

I haven't eaten meat for over 30 years but that's even got me drooling!
Can you exist on 400 calories a day?

You mean like Sainbury's on Fenchurch Street, hardly a council area. What are the office workers supposed to eat?

It's a 5 day "Fast" but you're allowed 1100 on the first day and 750 for each other day. I thought I'd try it a bit lower so I did 200 the first day and 400 a day since. It finishes tomorrow and so far so good although I do think about food all the time, must be like having a crack habit.

I believe if drink plenty of water you can pretty much do 5 days with no calories as long as you are healthy to start with.

I do the 'marine diet' occasionally, just for 3 days. It's a good way to lose weight quickly (although not a good long term solution) but like you, it's the whole 'cant stop thinking about food' constantly that really starts to get you down.
It's not even a hunger thing, I can keep relatively full up on the diet as well as drinking plenty of water, I don't feel that hungry.
I find my body just starts seriously craving carbs and I find myself dreaming about cheese on toast or pizza rolleyes

It was just the same as any regular sausage roll from a supermarket, just bigger.

The local "Mozzas" (council speak...) only makes a batch of 50 each morning, and given the publicity I guess it is just a loss leader to get people in. There was a big selection of other pastry wrapped meats for when these were sold out/.

Well for those who don't have a well trained girl at home to pack a meal with decent ingredients smile Pret is all over the City like a rash.

And just opposite the sainsbury's on fenchurch street to the right is a Italian Sandwich Place. And if you go down the street that sainsburys is on, there is a Haz if you fancy a quick service sit down affair. The City isn't exactly short of places to eat...

Besides OP named 'meal deals' more than sandwiches, it is council to think lunch means a sandwich must always be followed by a bag of crisp.

Plus non-council people actually look at ingredients on a sandwich, and supermarket ones tend to be filled with crap. You are what you eat, and all that!
