Interesting stuff there Jim, amazing how much history a boat can have! Thanks for your offer, I think the chap's mulling it all over at the mo. He does tend to do things on a whim (he bought a Yamaha R1 a couple of years back, he's only been out on it twice!) but I think he's approaching the boat thing with a bit more caution.
Never noticed any discolouration on Penrose, he does tend to only smoke when he has a drink. I don't think a heron would last long against him though...
I'd like to know what it came off tbh but the original builder in Renfrew went years ago, all we know is it was rated to hold 60 people!Never noticed any discolouration on Penrose, he does tend to only smoke when he has a drink. I don't think a heron would last long against him though...
It's also quite rare these days to see them, I've only seen 2 others in 20 odd years & 1 of those was Aluminium & built in the 70's apparently.
I went to my local High Street earlier for vitals various & whilst looking in the window of the Bookshop I saw a tome entitled Grief is the thing with feathers........ I had no idea you had written Of Penrose' life!!

One of the reasons the pond had to go was it was eight inches out of level from one end to the other. Annoyed the bejayzus out of me. It was the previous owner's masterpiece. Kin hopeless at DIY he was, but the pond was his masterpiece.
I've just noticed, and if my maths are correct, this was the 1000th post on this marvellous thread. We should celebrate.Jim AK said:

A rare beast indeed then... it'd be an interesting party if you had 60 people on it now! It's also quite rare these days to see them, I've only seen 2 others in 20 odd years & 1 of those was Aluminium & built in the 70's apparently.

I wish I had the time to write a book, Jim. The tome to which you refer was, I believe, written by Professor Couch - Mrs Brassington's psychotherapist.

This evening I'm off to do a marathon around London. It's a walk but it is the full 26 miles 385 yards. I do a lot for charidee, Nicey, but I don't like to talk about it.

I'm starting to get a little nervous. It will be about 8/9 hours of walking. Three weeks ago, I got tendinitis in my right knee.
Finished in seven hours. Got a proper stride on. Long bloody way. Knee held up.http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/support-us/find-an...

Funny thing is rules & regs say a maximum of 13 on a privately owned vessel, on the Thames at any rate. Always strikes me as an odd number bearing in mind all the superstitions that go with a boat.I wish I had the time to write a book, Jim. So, Old Couchey strikes again with another 'unauthorised' account of life in the Shires!
I'm not surprised Mrs B turned to him after the Windmill incident & Penrose' time in Ugley during my holiday.
Should have realised you wouldn't have time to write it, what with the fencing dramas & copious Absinthe consumption of late.

Morning all. Sounds fun V6, what was the occasion?
Back to work again later, then housework before dear Mother turns up next Tuesday, what an exciting life I lead!!![grumpy](/inc/images/grumpy.gif)
Forgot to mention there was a spitfire and messerschmit flypast and then they did a long dogfight and the Hun got shot down. I wonder wether there were any phone calls to emergency services from people nearby saying there was an aircraft trailing smoke - it was all at full tilt too you could hear the superchargers whistling! They got down to about 30' at times over us and in eachothers tails - totally not regs but bloody awesome.Back to work again later, then housework before dear Mother turns up next Tuesday, what an exciting life I lead!!
