Millionaires get it, that said... I know whole communities (well off ones) where 99% of residents give theirs to a local good cause.

It needn't be means tested but simply an opt in/out option. I also feel it should be paid as a voucher to come off your heating bill rather than as cash - my Gran's neighbour saves the money, leaves the heating off or on low so lives in a cold house and spends the money on Christmas presents - not what the money is intended for.

So he's bleating on about being a millionaire and not needing it, but then only giving four grand (max, he probably got less than the £400 maximum) to charity. Tight git, give more if your going to get on your high horse and shout from the rooftops how amazingly kind you are to give just four grand away.
It his money that he earned so can do what he wants with it, the allowance he got is something not earned and hence given to a good cause... why should he give his own money too?

Absolutely. However, in this specific situation he is doing it in such a public way to massage his ego, yet it is only a couple of grand from a multi-millionaire.

I thought he was trying to push the idea that it should be an opt in thing rather than an automatic payment?

Good on him though for taking the time to write & try to set up an opt out.
Publicity stunt...

You don't receive the allowance unless you CLAIM it...

If he feels so strongly about it, why did he claim it in the first place...?
The article says - paid automatically to those eligible
Whereas the government website says you will be paid it automatically every year once you have applied for it.
Some people get it automatically.

My Grandma receives it, and she never applied for it or even wanted it.
My boss at work is quite well off and he said he automatically received it too without applying.
Sounds like a guilt trip fib...

I'm eligible, so why don't I get it?

I've never understood the people who say stringfellow is a cock. I think they must be jealous of his life. He's an old giffer, still banging fit young stunners and living a champagne lifestyle. Of course he looks a bit silly with his long hair etc but he doesn't care and is having a good time. Good luck to him.

There was recently a documentary on Alan Sugar, where he related a similar story to Piers Morgan.

Lord Sugar gives his winter fuel allowance to charity apparently.

I know Stringfellow can appear be a bit of a twit at times, but he went up in my estimation when he gave a full night out at Stringfellows (private room , loads of free drink and food) for some Oulton Park marshals attending the FF Festival at Brands years ago. His son Scott was competing in the Champion of Oulton series.
