Best way to handle the situation IMO

Quiet word to the pot smoker without involving parents, if OP gets a nobhead response then by all means tell the parents

Might be an idea for OP to say something like 'I didnt want to involve your parents but would you mind awfully smoking further away from my house'

The kid will appreciate not involving the parents and should be respectful

It's sadly the 14% part. I speak from experience.

When I was 19ish I fell in with an "interesting" crowd. I was never really one of them since I didn't like a smoke or a snort but we all loved Speed Garage so we'd go to the clubs/pubs or South London and rave it up a bit. Main difference was I didn't like to go out afterwards and look for a fight. Starting one if necessary. They often carried knives. If one of their neighbours had ever had the "audacity" to complain about their smoking or the associated behaviour there would have been repurcussions.

After seing an incident I will always remember I started to make excuses not to come out with them anymore. The smoking made them "twitchy" and of course when they got twitchy they got violent.

Now I can't talk for the OP. Since maybe he lives in posh surburbia and it will be completey fine. But my experience is that this sort of situation is what the Dirty Corrupt Police are for. Anonymous phone calls keep the peace. I wouldn't even entertain personal intervention. I notice that the people poo pooing the idea probably dont come from the same background...

Rich, It sounds like your experience is coming from a completely different place. Your former mates living in a scag-house smoking dope to bring them down from their last coke high so is a world away from most dope smokers - especially a 20 year old living at home.

I'm not saying that the world smells of roses, but if you expect your car to be vandalised just for treating someone with some respect then I pity your world view.
