I appreciate that this is a car enthusiasts forum, but not everyone is as committed as some of the cognoscenti on here.
Maybe you should cut the 'cognoscenti' some slack?!? Openly taking the michael out of people who follow their passion is really quite petty, isn't it?(And if they own a Caterham, Elise or similar, then these shoes are almost essential. As someone above said - if they got out of their bling SUV wearing them then it'd be affectation, but a proper sports / enthusiast's car...that's different)
Some most amusing replies especially those with so much emphasis on the brand, it's obvious having shoes such as those with a big tick on them is essential which is a lot of silly nonsense.
ANY thin soled lightweight shoe of glorified non-laced plimsol is all you need, bought from any cheapo high street retailer £20 a pair max. Have done so for years & amazingly have never experienced social exclusion. Such footwear hugely alleviates my sciatica & occasionally I will even drive without any shoe on my right foot which further eases sciatica pain as I'm able to fully flex leg & foot.

It’s the feel through the pedals you benefit from, I chose to go one step further and superglued my feet to the pedals for the ultimate sensory feedback; unfortunately I drive a manual and picked the accelerator and clutch...
did that sound funnier in your head? perhaps you should've kept it there.I know that it must mean something to you guys, and long may it do so, but I just don’t see it.

For instance I know that a Caterham is a lightweight sports car, because I’d asked before, but I had to Google Elise to find out that it was a Lotus.
I’m surprised that you didn’t drive your taxi in speedcats to get your fares to their destination quicker

Did you really have to google elise?
I bet he didn't really. Anybody even remotely interested in cars would know the model of car that basically turned Lotus sales around. My remote interest in cars extends to will it start when I turn the key, will it keep going, will it stop when I put my foot on the brake pedal, and will it respond when I tread on the other pedal?
Providing that I make sure it has petrol, check the oil occasionally, and have it serviced regularly then they’ve been okay so far for me.
All I ever knew about Lotus, was that there was a model called the Elan

I did laugh at the comment that driving loafers are kinder to the carpet but whatever. Just if people think you can’t feel what the car is doing via the pedals or have any experience with performance/track driving should really keep their lulz to themselves.

There you go again being proud of not knowing about cars. My 78 year old mother is so proud of not knowing about computers, refuses to have a smartphone and will not touch a computer and she wears than ignorance as a badge of honour. My remote interest in cars extends to will it start when I turn the key, will it keep going, will it stop when I put my foot on the brake pedal, and will it respond when I tread on the other pedal?

You drove for a living every day of your working life, to say you have no interest in cars is ridiculous. What you are saying is that if a car ran into you on the insurance form you would not be able to tell the make and model of car, when you probably saw more cars in your working life that most people on this forum.

You’re getting me wrong, or more likely I’m not enough of a wordsmith to get my meaning across. You drove for a living every day of your working life, to say you have no interest in cars is ridiculous. Whichever it is, I have no desire to draw it out, if what I posted trod on any toes or annoyed anyone, then I sincerely apologise.
I am not “proud” of not knowing much about cars, it’s just a fact that I’m just not that interested.
Please God no one runs into me, but I probably know the make of 75-80% of cars that I see, but I would have a little difficulty in differentiating between, or naming some of the models.

This place was once where enthusiasts come. But no more if a 3year old knows more than the average PHer....i.e. you would get shown up by a small kid.
Sounds like he is probably faster than you too...

And again Si, I don’t care that a 3 y.o. knows more car types than I do, I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m not a driving enthusiast, there is a lot more to this Forum than cars. This place was once where enthusiasts come. It takes all kinds, my younger son loves his BMW, and drove his previous Alfa-Romeo faster than I liked him to, plus he digs me out as a dinosaur because I insist on automatics only.
Conversely my elder son is like me, he sees cars as a p*xy nuisance, just a necessary evil that he needs, but wishes that he didn’t.
Your boy sounds bright, cherish him, believe me, they grow up so fast.

Nobody mentioned Gucci leather drivers yet?
Senna? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8By2AEsGAhUI have size 11 feet, and drive a frogeye sprite, space down by the pedals is a little cramped to say the least, I have an ancient pair of replicats (15+years old) they still do the job as compared to most other shoes/boots.
Actually found a photo of them...I bought them at the Goodwood FOS, from the Toyota F1 stand.

Driving bare foot is bloody stupid. IIRC it is illegal in NZ
It wasn't when I passed my test there 47 years ago, and it's still not illegal now. Jandals (flip-flops) are frowned upon but not illegal either.Driving bare foot is bloody stupid. IIRC it is illegal in NZ
I take a pair of flip flops to put on /take off on getting into or out of the car. I have driven off several time leaving said flip flops behind having stepped out of them and into the car.
