I start a new job on monday which is in Newport Wales.

Having spoken to my new boss, he is Very welsh, and struggle to understand what he is saying half the time!

Having never worked with the Welsh, Are there any big "do" or "donts" about them.

Or more importantly, how can i wind them up without getting sacked?

IME the Welsh have a great sense of humour and are quite happy to take the p**s and have the p**s taken...... Indeed, Taff Wars (youtube it) was shown to me in Wales.........

Get your new boss a present. You'll be his favourite from day one.

Further into Wales, there's sometimes an anti English sentiment which I really don't understand.

I mean, everyone knows they're wkers, but you're not supposed to tell them that.

I work with a few welsh guys - they love it when you make jokes about cheese-on-toast being the national dish. I always refer to Wales as "Western England", they roll about laughing at that one...!

You could enrol on welsh classes http://learnwelsh.coleggwent.ac.uk/

that would really wind them up, especially the one's who can't speak it, but are nationalistic anyway.

Note: My parents retire to Northwales, and my dad recently achieved A level Welsh, which is amusing cause he'll be chatting away in his broad lancashire accent, and the locals won't realise he can understand every word they say.

Weird country. You have to pay to get in, but not to get out, and you need half a pint of phlegm in your throat to pronounce most of the place names.

Why do you think they'd be any different to anyone else?

Would you have asked the same question of starting a new job in Oxfordshire? - because that's just as far away from you as Wales is, ffs.

I wouldn't worry, they'll spend just as much time taking the mick out of you.

You'll never tell a Welshman a sheep joke he hasn't heard.

You could always buy him some velcro gloves smile
