What scam is coming my way?

I was having a look on my local (Aberdeen) freecycle group the other day (council), and someone was offering 'A mobile phone' 'free to good family, please don't take advantage ' ( I took that to mean please don't accept this phone just to sell on.)

Without knowing what phone it is, I expressed as interest as a spare phone could always be handy. "Is it still available, and What is it?" I enquired.

A few days later I get a message. "Sorry for the delay in getting back you, I have been busy with a house move, the phone is an iPhone 6 and is available if you would like it

Hhmm, that's very generous thinks I...

"Sounds great, that's very nice of you, can I arrange to collect it please?"

Then I get this cryptic response.

" I have to be honest with you, there is an issue but it isn't with the phone, the phone is fine"

so..I am thinking that the 'issue' will be along the lines of ' When I told you I moved house, I have moved to (insert far away town name here) but can ship the phone to you if you send me monies.."

I hate having to be so suspicious of everything

Probably expecting you to take over a contract I’d imagine (not that a network will actually allow this)

I hadn't considered that.

I think it's far more likely that she posted the advert from her house in Aberdeen and then later that day, moved to Nigeria

I guess she could be engaged in upwards mobility, after all she just upgraded her mobile too !

She will have 'accidentally' posted on the wrong freecycle page and will be the other side of the country, but will be nice and offer to post, if you send a postal order to cover the postage costs. You won't ever see the phone.

This is pretty much along the lines i was thinking, aren't I lucky that she can just post it to me without a stamp on the envelope and the post office will contact me and ask me to go and pay for the delivery! I will look forward to telling her

Happened to me a long time ago, although that was with a guitar. Actually ended up getting the PH sleuths onto the car who found the perpetrator's phone number, photos of his car etc

The local (to him) police then contacted me some weeks later and asked to use the thread as evidence in the case they were building. Never heard anything after that though.

If the answer is entertaining, you could post a couple details so I could find it (I'm Aberdeen, too) and see if I get the same story. I enjoy a good scammer I do!
