Hoping someone can explain how to return faulty items to Amazon.

2 weeks ago I bought a PIR sensor light for outside, which is powered by solar/battery. worked great for 10 days then failed. Totally dead. Can't get it to work at all.

Clearly I am entitled to a full refund or replacement, however Amazon's options for this seem confusing and deliberately evasive.

If I go back to the item in my purchase history, I have the option to 'Return it within 30 days of purchase' and I can choose from many reasons, one of which is 'faulty'. But, this then goes on to say that for a return and refund within 30 days the item must be 'pristine'. They say will reject the refund for anything that is used/soiled/damaged. This light is most defiantly used, as it was screwed to a wooden post outside and was used...

Amazon make reference to 'warranty returns' in another area of their site, but then say these are only for 'eligible items' with no effort to explain further.

Under the information given for the light I bought, it says it is only eligible for '30 day return' and does not mention any other form of warranty return.

The items says it 'dispatches from Amazon' but is 'sold by Auzev-EU Direct'.

Basically, there is no option that I can find, that allows me to return this item in used condition because it has broken following some use.

Any advice please??

Don’t overthink it. Select the faulty option, package it up and send it back. Amazon, in my experience, are very good with returns although I generally only use them for stuff that they sell and ship. I once had a run in with a third party seller who was being awkward regarding a faulty product but ultimately Amazon will step in on your side.

I did have a faulty product sold by and shipped from Amazon beyond the 30 days return window but all it took was a few minutes on their chat facility.

Ok, thank you for the help!

Eggsactly.

I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon as I buy for extended family and my returns are only faulty items. The online process is easy and you can use the online chat. Sometimes if it's low value they tell me to bin it and send out a new one. I've had to return a vacuum cleaner once and didn't have the original box, so sent it in a smaller box with the telescopic nozzle sticking out. The good thing about faulty items is that they pay for postage and provide a label.

I’m not sure if it’s a thing but see if Amazon chat still exists

You could type your concern to someone and they’d respond with a sensible answer

Failing that just return it as it’s faulty, a bit of outside grime should be fine

You’ll be fine.

Just wait until you try and return something because they dispatched something entirely different to your order- that’s a challenge.

The process is needlessly confusing, but as others have said it's usually ultimately painless – I don't think I've ever had an Amazon return queried.

Most recent one for me was returning a fully working laser level that was missing its charger. Wasn't sure I'd done it right but as usual they seemed to issue the refund as soon as the parcel was dropped off. I just hope it didn't end up in landfill, but unfortunately I fear it may have done based on what I've read on the subject.

I usually ‘speak’ to them via chat. Never had a problem with getting a return for a faulty item accepted when using that method to initiate things.

Yeah! Other half ordered a "normal" sized Toblerone for Christmas and Amazon managed to confuse the order with a 4.5Kg monster Toblerone instead. We couldn't return it as they won't accept food items as a return, eventually they refunded us for the Toblerone and told us to keep it!

I've got to eat a Toblerone that weighs more than my Dog and it has a BBE June!

Can’t believe you went for a refund on that!

I went halves a few years ago with a friend as there was no way I could eat a full one and feel proud, needed an axe to cut it. I saved all the shavings and used them for hot chocolate.

This, sent something back the other day that was faulty, no issues at all.

Wouldn't request a refund normally but the normal sized Toblerone was a part of a gift for someone and we had no idea why a giant Toblerone appeared at the house. We were concerned we were going to be charged for a massive Toblerone as well (£100 I believe!)

It's currently on my dining room table and I feel like I'm on the set of the borrowers sat next to it hehe

Just returned a Garmin smartwatch that I bought from Amazon last year.

It stopped charging properly from the USB cable, you had to hold it in place for it to connect.

Noticed in my Amazon account today that it said there were only had 3 days left to return it (would have been a year since I purchased it)

Selected "return" in the options, had an online chat with someone, and they authorised the return, it should be being picked up tomorrow

A few years ago, I had some CCTV cameras that I'd bought 2 or 3 years previously. They'd been attached to my house, working - but the manufacturer suddenly changed their terms so that unless you paid for cloud storage, they would record nothing.

Contacted Amazon, explained what was happening - returned for full refund.

Amazing customer service.

It is, they mostly just dump the risk back on the supplier... smile

Amazon changed the game for customer service but I think to the cost of the supply chain in many cases.

I could see that being a problem if you owned a Great Dane or a mastiff but not a barking rat.
