how much do you pay for childminding?
Discussion
need someone to pick up the 4 year old from nursery wed and thurs - 3pm until 6.30.
whats the going rate for childminders - how does it work do they take them to their house / yours? do they have more than one kid? do they feed them? do they deliver them or do you pick up?
new to this!
thanks

Varies on many factors like what part of the country you are in and what you want.
If you want a childminder then they will generally take them to their own home, give them a drink/snack after school and look after them and other children
Someone more akin to a nanny will take them back to yours and mind only yours often doing their dinner/tea if that is what you request and are home late enough to have needed your children fed by that time.
Boils down to if you pay more then you have your home, just your child and them fed.

I don't know, but I bought my Wife a Honda Jazz sport 18 months ago, she now informs me that it will not take a child seat and two kids in the back seat.
This is all owing to the fact she now looks after her sisters year old daughter 2 days a week.
Thanks Jill, I now have to fork out for a friggin new car for my Wife.
In answer to your question O.P , its costing me quite a bit.
It is not costing Jill that much.

Real shortage round these parts (Bucks/Herts border), waiting list for the 'good' childminders (who all get paid holidays, and other weird quirks). Demand so high that my wife set up an after-school club and now earns more than me for looking after a bunch of kids for 2 hours a day.

You might want to try different car seat bases and look to the front seat for the child seat? This is all owing to the fact she now looks after her sisters year old daughter 2 days a week.

A 'friend' of mine does this. It just looks like a massive ballache for everyone concerned to be quite honest. She charges £7.85 per child per hour ("not working for less than living wage, innit") and these kids get the pleasure of being carted round shops all day, and generally get treated like an inconvenience. She charges parents even when SHE is on holiday ("people in PAYE jobs get paid holiday, why shouldn't I?") - but of course when the parents come to collect their kids she does an excellent "Oh we've had a lovely day feeding the ducks" routine.
Ofsted have been out to her many times and rated her 'outstanding' FFS!
