Got dragged in by the Mrs today. How do these shops make any money, the place was huge, few staff just sat bored at the desks. Stock was okish quality, seemed double the price of what it should be. Who buys this stuff.

You've answered your own question. They are middle of the road in terms of quality but people believe they are "premium" because of their higher costs compared to the cheaper alternatives.

Yup

I went in one recently looking for a bedside cabinet for my daughter. They were £150 to £300 and not great quality.

Picked one up from ikea for £55.

I bought one 3 weeks ago. Wanted some odd sized items and couldn’t find anything anywhere else.

Bought a corner sofa from them 7 years ago and still looks like new.

Didn’t pay anywhere near the “discounted” sticker price though.

We saw some furniture in there that we liked for our living room, an oak TV unit and matching display cabinet. Took a few photos on my phone and did a Google search for it later. Found the same furniture being sold as a different name (i.e. called Barry in FV, Kevin on the 'net) from an online retailer for about half the price they were selling it for. Ordered and delivered a few weeks later.

I'm guessing most of the stuff they sell in there has just been rebranded so it pays to look around.
