The little things that make Britain great
Discussion
It's a cliche, but I also love our sense of humour / irony - it's part of our DNA and no one else seems to get it!
Example: pouring with rain, get wet running from cab to building, walk into meeting with water dripping down my face and say "Morning all, lovely weather out there"
UK response: "Yeah, great isn't it" <smiles>
Non UK respnonse: "Really? I though it not so good this morning" <puzzled looks>
Again, it's fantastic to be home

I would suggest that it's a cliched myth. I don't know why we flatter ourselves with the self-delusion that we are somehow more humourous than others. In my (albeit limited to english language) experience we are no more accomplished than anyone else. Most people aren't funny - or ironic, they just think they are. The few that are - are by no means exclusively British. The key word in my quote was 'our'. In my opinion, as a collective, the Brits have a rather unique sense of humour. Not better as such, just different.
And one does not necessarily have to be funny oneself, in order to enjoy humour which we find amusing.

Agreed - I don't want to spoil the tone either - I just don't think this statement is correct:

I think that its only the British who believe their sense of humour is unique, or different. King Herald said:

This may well appear rude, but there we are. If I were being rude I'd simply not respond to such people as I'm tempted not to. Sadly I conform to social expectation - I do wonder though if everyone else does, smalltalk initiators included...
And having to stand next to a Brit at the urinals in a pub...."Better out than in"
"Ooooaaarh, that's better"
"So, who's gonna win the match on Sunday?"
ad infinitum......
So anyway, how's the weather down your way?
Arsenal in with a shot at the title next season?
